Rooming?

I'm looking at possibly attending as a freshman class of 2017 for animal science major and have already been accepted and offered an 2000 a year scholarship(didn't think UIUC gave money, I almost fainted haha) but whats
a recommended dorm? I've stayed in ISR but wasn't a fan.

Anywhere in the six pack. Avoid FAR, PAR, ISR, and LAR. Allen kinda sucks too.

im currently a freshman living in the 6 pack and i have not talked to one person who does not absolutely love the 6 pack. ive talked to kids in bromley that wish they chose the 6 pack. bromley is nice and all and you get more space but its not nearly as social. the people living their are social but you dont walk around and just pop your head in and say hi and make new friends like you do at the 6 pack. bromley food is also terrible. mot everyone at bromley will agree. just like the last poster said avoid LAR,ISR,PAR, and FAR. they are not social what so ever and is in bufu. the 6 pack rooms are a normal dorm size room. im a girl and i feel like i have a good amount of closet space. At first when i looked at picture i said there is no way i will fit all my clothes in that closet but it was a lot bigger than i thought. You also get a drawer under the bed which is HUGE. it can hold so many shorts/pants whatever you want it to. you also get 4 desk drawers that are a good size. you definitely get more room and dont feel so conjested if you bunk the beds.

Just a heads up if you want an easier way to get into 6 pack apply directly to the living learning community at weston. You can choose to take advantages of the opportunities it offers or you can not which is what i have done. it’s simply just an easier way to get into the 6 pack. it requires absolutely 0 time commitment what soever. it’s convienent also because they have a nice cooled basement area that has 3 class rooms and some study space. they offer some classes done in the basement which is also nice.

Whats your personality? That’s going to be huge when deciding where to stay.
The general breakdown of the residence halls is this:

Six Pack- very popular choice. Nice dorms. Majority white population. Lots of parties. Very social. If you’re a partier you’ll like it. If you’re looking for a place with more diversity, you’ll hate it.
Allen Hall- People who stay here are very artsy. Pretty social and friendly.
ISR- Very quiet, not social, best fit for extremely studious people.
FAR- Pretty social. A large amount of minorities (African Americans and Asians) live here. They have soul food night every Thursday to accommodate this. They also have air conditioning.
PAR- similar to FAR, but in my opinion is more mixed in terms of diversity. Contrary to what the previous posters said, its very social. There’s always activities going on. (Free massages, parties, cultural experiences, games, etc.) If you join an LLC here, you’ll also have a lot of fun and make quick friends. There’s no air conditioning in the dorm rooms which is dreadful during the warm months.
(People complain that FAR/PAR is far from campus but to me it really isn’t. I stay in PAR and there’s also always buses in front of the building. I never had a problem being on time)
Busey-Evans- all girls dorm, its pretty quiet not very social. Aesthetically pleasing, looks like an old hotel on the inside.
LAR- Haven’t gotten the chance to explore LAR yet, but I heard its pretty nice and the rooms are pretty big. It just recently went co-ed, which is a plus in my opinion.

Try joining an LLC to to get the best living experience! You won’t regret it!

I’m a white girl and social but not really the partying type. Im majoring in animal sciences but unfortunately there isn’t an LLC that kinda corresponds with that. Thanks for all the advice!
