Roommate as First Priority for Housing Questions

Hi! I have a couple questions about choosing the roommate option as your highest priority.

-Will I still get one of my choices for the type of housing? If my wanted-roommate and I choose the same options for our top choices, are we likely to get that choice? What happens if my wanted-roommate and I pick completely different rooms in our preferences? Do they look at that section if you make Roommate your highest priority?

-If I want to be in a triple, and have my two roommates picked out, will it be possible to get them both or can you only get one from your Housing form? I know each person would have to put both people, which might help, but are the people that go through the forms paying enough attention to realize I would want both?

I hope these questions make sense, and that I can get some answers! Thanks. (:

Choosing roommate as your highest priority will get you those roommates, most likely. Most of the people I know who chose roommate as highest priority got their roommate, except for one case. It’s not a guarantee, but I have confidence that Housing considers your roommate preference as a top factor for putting you in a room. Whether you and your intended roommates will get your choice for the type of housing depends on how hard-to-get your type of housing is. My choice for a roommate and a plaza was accommodated, but I got a triple instead of the double that I requested. If your intended roommates and you pick completely different rooms in your preferences then, according to the Housing guidelines, you will not be roommates. You must both pick exactly the same preferences, they say.

Now in the case of being in a triple and having your two other roommates picked out, I think there’s a good chance that you’ll get what you want.

You will most likely get your pick of roommates. Be aware though that you might need to share a bathroom with three other people if 2 triples are connected. You can get both of your roommates granted that they put that they wish to room with you and your other buddy and not someone else (that is where it gets really confusing).

Thank you both very much for your feedback. Azureaura, I want a hall, not a plaza, so hopefully I don’t get a plaza. My supposed roommates are now looking at their other options, so we’ll see how it works out. Thanks again.

As an earlier post pointed out: “All roommates must rank in the same order all Facility/Room Type and/or Theme Communities Preferences on the housing application.”
