This is the official thread for the Ross Mathematics Program at the Ohio State University for those interested in this program.

I’ve never done this program before, but I’m shocked by its considerably lower price than all other residential summer mathematics programs. Is 2250 really the whole tuition for all 6 weeks? Also, what is the day-to-day schedule for weekdays and weekends?

The program is so cheap because of support from the Clay Mathematics Institute and Ohio State. Last year the tuition was $2200 and it might increase a little this year but it will in that range. The schedule is 1-2 hours of classes in the morning Monday-Friday and the rest of the time is unstructured with the expectation that you will spend most of it working on problem sets. There are also occasional (~1 per week) special events that you are usually required to attend as well and an optional weekly frisbee game. You can find more detail on the schedule as well as other stuff about Ross in this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/1436645-all-you-ever-wanted-know-about-ross.html.

Greetings from China
I’m preparing for the 2013 Ross Program Application,
Anyone who has ever attended the program?

I have attended the program for the past three summers and wrote extensively about it here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/1436645-all-you-ever-wanted-know-about-ross.html?highlight=ross. The program is about 10% international students and for the past three years there have been 1-2 international Chinese students per year. The program is reasonably selective but extremely selective. I suggest spending a fair amount of time on the application problems.

Has anyone already applied and heard back?

Who’s applied so far? Who’s planning to submit an application?

Students who are planning to apply should ideally do so soon if they have not already.

Yeah, I’m aware. I just finished the essays tonight and put everything together. I’m planning on mailing the form, problems, and essays tomorrow or Wednesday. I still need to get the rec letter and transcript, but I’m correct in saying that they can be sent later right? (I’m on spring break until Thursday)

Yeah that should be fine.

How long does a decision generally take?

Probably a couple of weeks although it could be more or less I’m not really sure.

Cool. Well, I’ll mail it tomorrow or Wednesday, get my transcript when I get back, and get my rec letter as soon as I can. Thanks for your help.

Did anyone come across the problem with changed application problems? For some reason, the problems I downloaded at the end of January are not exactly the same as the problems currently on the website. 3 questions are completely different, and others are rephrased… I was close to done on the previous set, but since I apparently have the wrong set, I have a lot to redo! If I submit my application by the end of this week (8th April), would that still be fine…?

My guess is that you were looking at last year’s applications problems which would have amount of differences you described from this years. I can’t imagine any reason why the application questions would change mid-cycle.

I just applied April 10th, so they’ll probably get it by this weekend. Also, I only used 9 pages for my application problems. Is this fine or will that hurt my chances?

9 pages should be fine. The amount of pages used per problem has little correlation with mathematical ability and mainly depends on personal style.

Mine should have arrived in their offices on the 10th, I was wondering whether they send out confirmation emails that they’ve received the application, or whether they only email after they’ve made a decision?

At least three years ago when I applied I didn’t get a confirmation email; my guess is that they still don’t send out confirmation emails

When I sent my application in earlier this month, there was no confirmation. If you think you sent in all the stuff you needed to, you probably did; however if you really wanted to, I guess you could call or email them just to make sure.
