ROTC quicky question

Does anyone know when ROTC applications open up. I’m a junior now, so will I have to wait until senior year?

This past cycle of scholarships (class of 2008) began mid-april according to the AFROTC website, so I assume the same will be true this year.

It really pays off to apply early, so keep your eye on their websites for further updates!

roger that!

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on it then

May 1st sticks in my head as the "opening date" from when my son applied last year.

It was very helpful for my son and I to meet with the scholarship officers and/or the head honchos of the ROTC program at universities. I think we visited 5 or 6 different schools. It gave my son experience with interviews and also helped us understand the entire process. The application process for AFROTC is different from Army ROTC which we discovered. Son went Army ROTC. Also, if you can meet with the administrative assistant who ends up dealing with DODMERB and paperwork that would also help you out.

Be honest. Say you are interested in finding out about their program and the PROCESS of applying. It really helps!

Usually you come away with a lot of information and a better understanding of the system. Then when you meet with the next people, you have more indepth questions to ask. They all understand that the process is unlike any other.

Email the contact listed on their school/ROTC website. We have never been turned away or ignored. Beware, though. During the summer people may be at the summer programs, but usually someone is around. In addition many officers are transferred during the summer, so if you do meet with them, ask if they will be around during the next year. If not, their replacement might be around, or you can get their contact info.

This was extremely beneficial to us, because they did not require an interview after my son applied, since they had already met him.

Good Luck!

I think the application deadline is sometime in the fall/winter.
U.S. Air Force ROTC - College Scholarships and Careers should spell it out.
