I’ll try to sum up my situation in hopes to get feedback and insight on the matter. I’m from California and in my beginning years of college out of high school, I did extremely poor due to emphasizing work and not caring enough about college. I went to two different community colleges racking up a score of W’s, D’s, F’s, and only a couple A’s/B’s. At both of these two colleges, I received a 1.79 GPA. As time passed by, I learned a lot from my mistakes and life changing events occurred to finally wake me up to reality. I moved and attended a third community college, where I currently attend, and have attained a 3.61 GPA. I have been cramming 16-18 unit semesters and am now finally able to transfer to a CSU and not a UC like I hoped, due to my cumulative GPA (from the two failed community colleges) being just barely 2.89-3.00 range. Now, this may vary because some of the failed grades I received, I retook and received A’s in. I have been making all of the preparations in finding out about volunteering at the local college’s hospital and will definitely try to get insight from the counselors at the campus once I transfer. I wanted to learn more from the community here, so I can be more knowledgeable on my next steps/goals. My question is, what are my chances of getting into medical school; if I push myself to do extremely well at CSU, rack up volunteering hours, and receive a high score on the MCAT (30+), given my rough start and low GPA? If it matters, I’m 24 and was hoping to go to UW School of Medicine rather than medical schools in California, but not opposed to it if admitted.
I apologize for the long post, and I greatly appreciate those who take the time to read and reply!
