Rumor that HS class of 2012/College 2016 not as competitve as 2011/2015?any truth?

I heard that 2011 was one of the most difficult years for ivies and top universities. Supposedly 2012 isn't as competitive or on "par" with grades in test scores this upcoming year. Any body else here this? any truth to this?

No idea where you’re hearing these rumors.

Any source of info?

other forum discussion from another college site. I just don’t know where anyone is getting it from. However, I do know from my own high school besides the honors students that many people didn’t have good scores and stuff like that.

I don’t know if there is any truth to that as a whole, but it’s definitely true at my school/other schools in my area.

I’ve heard that too…

Well good for me for college admissions if it’s true :)

But overall that’s sad if it’s true.

There is no way anyone would know that IMO, but I still think admissions are getting harder and will continue to get harder until some sort of “break” in the near future. Either way, I don’t think we are less competitive than last year seniors (not that it matters in terms of admission)

I’ve heard that overall our class is not on par with the class of 2011. Not just by some collection of SATs either.

Note that I do not have a source to back me up, but I HEARD that this is true because there are less students in the class of 2012 than there were in last year’s graduating class. This will be of good benefit to us if it is true!

It’s also true in my school (though I doubt a small private school’s account means much). Over 100 students in the Class of 2011 and only 88 in the Class of 2012, and 2011’s was definitely far superior.

Interesting how everyone that has posted so far seems to see the same though

I agree, my schools class of 2012 isn’t on par with 2011.
Again, its one small school so its not very impacting…
But I guess it will be apparent when CDS turn up right? :D

That’s really weird, because it’s the same way at my school. The class of 2012 is MUCH, MUCH less competitive and talented than both 2011 and 2013.

Maybe this is just all a coincidence?

I don’t think that’s true for my school. The class of 2012 seems to have been the most influential to our school, ever since our sophomore year. We literally dominate every varsity sports team (except for maybe tennis and girls’ soccer), have some great musicians and singers, and our standardized test scores should be AT LEAST on par with the class of 2011.

A lot of our students have won some great awards too. One girl placed 2nd in some national essay contest or something…and won a $16,000 scholarship! We’re a pretty “loud” group, overall.

But then again, we don’t seem to be very involved in clubs such as Debate or Key Club. But we’re definitely unique!

I know, honestly I’m really hoping it’s not a good class, its better for all of us. If less students apply admissions wont be as overwhelmed and picky as last year. It is weird though my class 2012 sucks at my school. I wont get my hopes up though lol.

Like the above poster, my school’s class of 2012 is much stronger than the class of 2011. We have some very talented athletes and musicians, and grade-wise a 3.9 UW GPA will leave you out of the top 20%.

In our school, class of 2011 has consistently scored higher on standardized tests since 4th grade.

Also depends on the rigor/type your school is.

And it’s not gonna be a ubiquitous occurrence. For the sake of the future of America, I hope it’s not true.

CPU - like an earlier poster, our class of 2013 is also scoring higher on standardized tests. I’ve been checking the NYS school report card since 1st grade.

True for my school…a public school with 650 students in the class of 2012. It is a smaller class than 2011 and I also feel a less competitive class. The class of 2011 had 4 NMSF the class of 2012 will have 2. Only two people have SAT scores above 2250 in my class of 2012 compared to 20 I personally know in the class of 2011 and possibly more. GPA (Weighted) for top ten is cut by .05 on average and there are less distinguished musicians and athletes. Anyways good news for me if I can pound out a damn essay…

My boarding school is the same, disregarding the Korean students who stay constant every year, the american students at the top of the 2012 class dont compare with 2011.
