Riverside park if you want to run next door.

If you’re up early a saturday and feel like taking in a long 1+ hour jog than nothing beat central park. Just be prepared to be SURROUNDED by everything from fat ladies eating muffins while “power” walking and complaining about being fat (yes I have seen this) to national competitors that make you feel inadequate.

Gotta love NY.

Unless you’re a fat lady who eats muffins, it’s hard to see the big loop (5.9 miles) as “a long 1+ hour jog” ;)

The fatties don’t really come out until the afternoon, it seems. If you’re there at 9 or 10 (or even 11), it’s mostly the hardcore folks who will make u feel inadequate.

Muffins- NOM NOM NOM NOM

(I can’t do more than an hour. I hate slow jogging I go fast and hard and then put myself away wet…wait…)

I’ve really never seen anyone eating on the CP loop. I do see these ******bags with these water things hooked up to them.

^^ You know, I think that’s a damn sight better than the Columbia gym in the evenings when these heavily made up girls work it on the tread mill and don’t break a sweat because their make up will slough off. Then they complain that they’re fat.

Agreed. I actually love running in central park. From Columbia, going down and doing a Reservoir loop and coming back is about 4 miles. Nice easy half-hour run. Do the bridal path instead, and it’s 4.5. Cut off the reservoir path to East Drive and go up to 110th and around the rink and then out, and it’s 5. Go to 72nd, cross over, and then up East Drive? 6. Get my point? However much you want to run, you can.

The more important thing is that it’s very pleasant. No cars allowed, and very little truck traffic on 5th ave or CPW, so it’s not all that disturbed. The reservoir (with the backdrop of the midtown skyline) is beautiful, as is north meadow. Same goes for doing the bike path down on Riverside Park - starting around 83rd st you can cut under a bridge down to a path beside the docks right on the river and run up and down with the river right next to you.

The bad news is, you can’t get TOO far away from the reality that there are cars and buildings nearby. The good news is, you won’t get pancaked by a driver doing 50mph on a country road who doesn’t see you. So, ups and downs.
