Rutgers Pharmacy Vs. UNC Pharmacy

I am currently a high school senior. I need help in deciding between two pharmacy schools: Rutgers and UNC. I got accepted into Rutgers pharmacy and I will receive almost 75% of the tuition. Rutgers seem to have the best money, the best location (only 30 minutes away from my house so I don’t have to dorm and pay extra 10,000) plus it’s still a competitive awesome program. However, UNC is the number 2 pharmacy school in the nation and it offers far greater opportunities and internships in more renowned institutions and also great and awesome program. so really both options are great that’s why I am very confused??? any advices on which ones should I pick

My son was accepted into URI Pharmacy program, and he is on the waiting list for Rutgers. we paid the deposit for URI, but if Rutgers accept him, he will go with Rutgers because of the rating. Good luck.

Go to Rutgers lol. Pharmacies dont give a crap about where you go to school and you will probably be debtless when you graduate vs like 100k+ at UNC. Rutgers also has the best industry fellowship opportunities (Most of the industry fellowships at ASHP’s midyear meeting are affiliated with Rutgers) so you will get a lot of opportunities if you want to go industry or residency (clinical pharmacy) with Rutgers.

Also, if you want to get an externship at a major pharma company during your last year of pharmacy school, it WILL happen. Definitely an advantage of going to RU because there are a billion pharma companies in NJ that Rutgers is connected with.

Though to be fair Rutgers won’t place you in any internships (other than the required externships for school) so maybe UNC has an edge on that. Not worth out of state tuition + housing at all though.

This is coming from a 2014 graduate of EMSOP. Also job prospects aren’t great with pharm these days so be sure you want to do pharm before the 4 professional years of pharmacy school

Thanks! that helped

Rutgers Pharm is really good, but also overrated. i have friends at other pharmacy schools that are able to manage a lot more with classes cause the curriculum here is tough. With that said, if you can handle it, then by all means, choose rutgers.

if not, then unc would be a better choice (especially since its a great school too)
