Rutgers Plan - Need Advice Please

HEY GUYS!

So, I’m in a bit of a predicament here and I need some advice.

I was recently denied to my first Rutgers Choice (Rutgers NB SAS) as I posted in another thread. I was honestly a bit destroyed at first because I know a few kids who had a lower GPA and easier course load than I and were accepted. That’s irrelevant, but it annoyed me regardless.

I was, however, accepted to Rutgers Newark with a very generous financial aid package, which I toured and enjoyed very much. Still, Rutgers NB is still my top choice because I feel like it has a better social life (more clubs, parties, etc) and is respected more (tell me if I’m wrong).

I was talking to a few friends and my mother and they recommended I go to Rutgers-N for a year before I could transfer to Rutgers NB. That would mean I would have to commute for a year from home, which I don’t mind and then dorm when and if I go to Rutgers NB. Is this a good plan?

I wouldn’t be wasting money really, but I just need some advice. Is it harder to transfer within Rutgers? Is it a stupid idea?

HELP! Thanks in advance.

If the commute isn’t terrible then I think it’s a great plan. And to be getting a good financial aid package could set you up financially to be in a better position when you do transfer to NB.

I wish you all the luck.

I’m in possibly the same exact predicament. Still waiting on SAS. The longer I wait, the more doubtful I grow. I’m gonna think of Newark as training wheels for NB SAS.

On the same boat as you seeker!
I was disappointed as well, my friend who had a 1070 SAT got accepted into Rutgers New Brunswick

@nikolateslaxi right?! and it’s not that i am taking that accomplishment from them; bravo to them! but still, it seems a bit unfair in my opinion

I think at this point I’m going to attend RU-N and make the most of it! i enjoy that it’s situated next to NYC and it’s financially more feasible for me personally. it bothers me that a lot of people degrade it

People who were accepted with lower sat and such may also be a minority and that plays a huge part when they accept kids

You think so? @rutgersknight322

@nikolateslaxi It’s true, affirmative action plays a huge role in the Rutgers admissions procese.

Bottom line: your diploma will read Rutgers University…and not Rutgers University-Newark (New Brunswick, Camden).

@MDS3NJ wait are you serious? it doesn’t specify which campus you went to on a diploma? :-/

Back in 1986, I started at RU Newark - commuting from home. Back then I was actually able to take classes in New Brunswick which I did all of my second semester then I transferred to NB. I think it’s a great plan!
