Rutgers Presidential Scholarship c/o 2015

@ProxyGC - have Bloustein recognitions been announced? I received a call a few months from the HS ago that my D was being nominated, but she hasn’t heard anything.

HESAA posts that notifications happen in November–in a past year, a letter came from them in late December. I’ve seen nothing yet this year. But if your daughter is nominated by her HS and has the SAT scores, she has the “award.” The question is whether the state will actually fund this scholarship. Last year they did not, so students who “won” got no money. With the the state’s fiscal situation no better this year, my guess is that no scholarship will be forthcoming for this year’s Bloustein’s nominees, either. It would be nice if HESAA would at least send kids some kind of recognition letter. If you have the patience for a phone call to HESAA to hear their official explanation, here is the contact link (and let us all know what they have to say):

Congrats, Model T! Yes, that is basically a full ride. I would grab it & go into the honors program in my major, and be debt free when looking at grad schools, if I were you!

As of today RU says they have not notified all Presidential Scholarship awardees, that they will continue to send out notices over the next couple of weeks. Good luck to all hopefuls!

Update on the Bloustein scholarships–HESAA will not send letters to current HS senior students until and unless the state of NJ decides to fund this program next July. There is no funding in the current budget for it.

By the next couple of weeks, does that mean that RU can still give out presidential scholarship decisions in like February or March?

b/c i’m goign to ask them if i can still take the January SAT to raise my SAT just 20 points!

S has 1510/1600 and 2310/2400 and is in the top 5% of school. But I am not sure if he put that on his app. He probably put “school doesn’t rank” and since RU doesn’t collect the transcript from school, they may not know he is in the top 5%. Their website doesn’t talk about this requirement though.

@sporty04 - let us know if they say yes, as I will make a crazy offer to my D to try to raise hers!

Thanks ProxyGC, I’m very happy to hear they haven’t given them all away yet  I haven’t even gotten my early action decision yet and was getting worried.

to be considered for scholarships, you had to have scores and credentials in by December.

its too late.

andyle, are you positive though? b/c somebody told me that january scores might be considered…did you talk to the admissions ppl?

my friend got the presidential with a 2210 and top 5% class rank. i think u guys are overacting. its sat combined with academics. if your only 20 points away but you make it up with your grades, then your fine.

reallly? wait…when did she get it?

b/c the scholarship criteria became very strict starting from this year i heard…

I found out about 3 weeks ago that I received the Presidential Scholarship (full ride) at Rutgers Newark College of Arts and Sciences by email but today I received a letter in the mail telling me I had received a Chancellor Scholarship for 6000 a year with the Honors College. If I choose to enroll in the Honors College, will my original scholarship not apply? What would I have to do in order to take advantage of my full ride at Newark?

appeal:

if i have a 2380 can I appeal the decision? I just got my letter and … I got the Carr (10,000)

nritya-- I think it depends on your class rank/grades whether an appeal would be prudent. If you’re not in the top 5% of your class, it probably wouldn’t be worth it, but if you are, it might have simply been an oversight. That’s a really stellar SAT score, congrats on that :)

Does anyone know if the Presidential Scholarships can be revoked for poor senior grades? My senior grades aren’t that bad, but I’m foreseeing that my class rank might drop a place or two this year (AP Calc will be the death of me) and honestly, I’m not all too inclined to really work to bring up my Calc grade that much since I’m not going to be a math/science major anyway…

I just got an email from a Rutgers official telling me that they re-evaluated my application and awarded me a Presidential Scholarship for CAS, Pharmacy, and Engineering!

I’m so excited, this is such an honor!!! I think I want to go Rutgers now lol.

My D got presidential scholarship to have a full ride to SAS and business school this fall. Should I skip the FAFSA process?

whats the link to check for scholarships?

Is it worth it to make an appeal with 2300 SAT? My school doesn’t give ranks.
