Rutgers Presidential Scholarship c/o 2015

Hey. I'm guessing that for most of you, Rutgers is a safety school. Even if that's the case though, the Presidential Scholarship could possibly sway many of us to choose RU over some more prestigious swanky schools, even ivies (at least it would in my case). It's relatively difficult to get - 190 of over 7000 incoming freshmen were Presidential Scholars this year.

Last year, scholarship notifications began coming out in December, including some Presidential offers. This year's "official" position is that scholarship offers won't be sent out until January, but this was also the case for last year, which means that some of us may still hear as soon as December.

Post any updates, questions, information, or comments. How many of us are expecting a Presidential Scholarship? Based on seeing past seniors from your HS's, do you think the standards for it are that high? when do you think they'll begin coming out?

ummm bump. anyone?

My son is going to apply because if the scholarship opportunity.

It makes Rutgers definitely competitive for him since a lot of the schools he is looking at are very expensive and most offer no merit aid.

He meets all the criteria for this scholarship and if he was awarded one it would be hard not to pick Rutgers over most of the schools on his list.

I have a question, if you send in your DEcember ACT/SAT score, can you still qualify for the award?

anyone there?

sorry, its just that the deadline for the test is today, and i will sign up if i can send those scores to qualify, but if not…i won’t take the test

anyone? please please reply/

as long as you request your sat scores to be sent over by dec. 1st u will be eligible to be considered for scholarships…as far as taking another sat after the due date you would need to call them to find out…

I found out by email today that I got a presidential scholarship. Good luck everyone!

Oh wow, congrats! I’m not expecting a presidential scholarship but do you think they would notify me today too if I was being offered any scholarship?

I wasn’t expecting it today, either. The admitted student packet said that scholarship notifications would come by mail in January, so you might find out soon! Apparently not very many people found out today, even if they were strong candidates. They only tell people who get scholarships though. Good luck!

I got a Presidential Scholarship too! I didn’t even knew they were sending it out lol. I actually thought it was a joke :P. Anyways, is the Presidential Scholarship a full ride basically? It said I would be given $96,000 ($24,000 for four years) for arts and sciences or env and biological sciences, depending where I want to go.

My stats in case you’re wondering:
GPA: 3.94

SAT (2330)
M:760
CR:800
W:770

I found out the 23rd too!

My stats:

GPA: 4.72/4.8
ACT: 35

melodious/ModelT (or others) - did you guys put your rank on the SRAR, what was it … I am curious if Rutgers looked at the rank/decile to decide the Presidential Scholarships

of course they use rank to determine eligibility. why wouldn’t they? its factored in just like sat/gpa.

Even if your school does not rank, you could have gotten the Presidential Scholarship, given that you had the enough GPA and SATs.

itsjai - my school doesn’t officially rank, instead they report what decile we are in to scholarship/honors programs. However, my guidance counselor did tell me how I ranked.

many speculated on other threads that the Presidential Scholarship criteria were a 2250+ and top 10% of their class. adcoms roughly know who would and wouldn’t be top 10% from in-state schools, based on students in the past that were from the same hs. to my knowledge, most if not all Presidential recipients received the email on the 23rd.

S hasn’t received any letter regarding the award yet. His SAT is 2310 and in-state.

Presidential used to require top 5% rank as well as 1500/1600 SAT. Rutgers says they contact the HS to ask for rank if an applicant looks eligible from their SAT and GPA. Top 10% is a given for instate students who earned the Bloustein recognition–if you reported that award to RU, they know your decile at least.
