Rutgers Social Life and Whatnot

thank you guys so much, such a big help!!!

Does anyone know about the Douglass campus for Psych majors? Aaaand are there parties there, or do you have to go to College Ave?

what specifically do you want to know about psych majors and douglass? most of my friends are psych majors and live on douglass. the psych building is on busch. most of the psych classes aren't on douglass, except for a few ie social psych etc. most are on busch or college ave.

and there are apartments/houses on douglass where parties happen. and lippincott, a newly-co-ed dorm for first years. there's a frat on douglass, too. also new gibbons :)

but mostly people do go to college ave.

Just got accepted and now I'm trying to pick a campus for housing. I'm going to be a history major so where are most of the History classes situated. Although that might not factor my decision I don't want my classes too far away.

college ave, mostly.

i just got accepted to NB SAS and i dont really understand how the campus is divided into other campuses so if am majoring in math what campus would i want to live at?

busch its the math/science campus. but if you don't mind the buses, then any other campus would be fine.

is the busch campus nice and do people party there?

I was at Rutgers last night, and I would say that the social life is pretty good. It was really cold outside so not that many people were out and there weren't a whole lot of parties but it was still good.

people from busch usually go to college ave to party anyway. i dont think parties in the suites happen too often. and I heard a lot of people in allen got in trouble last semester for partying in the dorm.

and levitylev, were you at the starky's last night by any chance? :)

ah. no. i just visited for one night

i dont know if i want to go to rutgers im so confused. i dont understand the way the school is broken up into different campuses. and lets say if i went to rutgers and stayed at busch then would i make friends from any other campuses. lol sorry that i sound crazy but can someone explain how everything works there.

rutgers university has three campuses: new brunswick (the most prestigious and coveted), Newark, and Camden.

New Brunswick itself is broken up into four campuses--five, if you count cook and douglass separately--Busch, Livingston, College Avenue, and Cook/Douglass. You use buses to go from campus to campus.

Here, I will explain which buses go where. it seems confusing in print but if you are physically there on campus, it makes sense. if this will confuse you any more than you already are, just skip this paragraph: From busch, you take the b to livingston and vice versa. From Busch, you take the A or the H to go to college Ave. From Busch, you take the REXB to Cook/Douglass. Then from Livingston, you take the REXL to Cook/Douglass. From Livingston to College Ave, you take either the L or the LX, depending on where you want to go.

if you look at a map of campus (<a href="http://maps.rutgers.edu/maps/default.aspx%5B/url%5D">http://maps.rutgers.edu/maps/default.aspx</a>) you can see how the campuses are divided and that you can't walk from one to the other, except from busch to livingston (takes about 20 minutes) or from college ave to douglass, which takes 20 minutes also, if you walk fast.

you live on one campus and take classes at different campuses. if you choose to live on busch or are placed there, you have classes on the other campuses as well, hence the bus system, hence increasing the likelihood that you will make non-busch friends.

hope this was helpful.

is it hard to make friends when your in large classes?

To laxshortixox: Wanna make friends with people in your HUGE lecture classes? Form a study group when exam time comes around =)

Plus, remember that you can also make friends through other means such as those living in your dorm, clubs/activities, classes with a smaller amount of students.

Which campus is the nerdiest?

I really only want to study and hopefully transfer into the Honors Program, and the Business Program.

i got into New Brunswick, SAS

umm nerdiest? I guess busch.

yeah, and I also have problems making friends in lecture halls. but I have friends in my dorm/friends of friends/activities/smaller classes, so you'll be fine.

thanks.. and u said that most math classes are at busch so if i was to live on college ave how long would it take me to get from college ave to busch for classes?

From College Avenue to Busch? pfft, no big deal =)

I live on Busch and have 3 classes over on College Avenue. It should take less than 10 minutes if you take the "A" bus from, say, the Student Activity Center.

It seems like a lot of time, but it's nothing when you find yourself leaving for classes early. So sign up for housing on College Avenue if you want.
