<p>I was accepted into the following **0-6 PharmD **Programs at Rutgers and Northeastern (20k annual scholarship), but am unsure where to attend. I am OOS, so the tuition for RU will be roughly the same as NEU..</p>
<p>I'm sure people have been in this situation, so if have, **please offer your insight onto why you chose either school **and what overall influenced your decison. Even if you haven't been in this specific situation, please post why you picked either RU of NEU Pharmacy. Thanks!</p>
<p>With any state school, I would try to find out the effects of recent and planned budget cuts. New Jersey’s governor prides himself in how much he can cut from educational budgets.</p>
<p>I think I’m going to choose Northeastern because…</p>
<p>1.) It’s closer to home for me</p>
<p>2.) It’s location is literally perfect. Right in the center of Boston. Great for medical and entertainment purposes.</p>
<p>3.) Co-op. You’ll have a pretty hefty resume by the time you graduate.</p>
<p>4.) I visited and it has a beautiful campus.</p>
<p>5.) You get experience in all three different types of pharmacy before you graduate, and graduating pharmacists have a good chance at landing residencies for hospital pharmacy, which is what I’m interested in. So this is a HUGE factor for me. I do NOT want to end up a retail pharmacist. Really, I don’t.</p>
<p>6.) Prepares you for job interviews and such.</p>
<p>7.) At Rutgers, most internships are in retail.</p>
<p>8.) Didn’t get a scholarship from Rutgers.</p>
<p>9.) I am just in love with Boston. lol.</p>
<p>However, there are good things about Rutgers as well. Its pharmacy program is ranked higher than Northeastern. And I haven’t visited Rutgers, so I can’t tell you about the campus.</p>

<p>I’m in the same situation as you. I’m currently leaning towards Northeastern because:</p>
<ol>
<li>I really like their co-op program (heard many stories about how NEU people were much more prepared for jobs after the co-op program).</li>
<li>I want to go to a place where I can have fun. Boston’s the ultimate college town, and there are many opportunities to meet new people.</li>
<li>Northeastern’s in the middle of Boston, so it’s close to wherever you want to go :D</li>
<li>Northeastern has better facilities and equipment. Maybe I’m just biased towards privates, but when I went to visit Rutgers, the pharmacy building looked really dingy and old. Northeastern’s campus, however, was modern and is really beautiful. </li>
<li>I heard stories about the Rutger’s bureaucracy and how it’s hard to actually get something across at the school. At NEU, there are more resources and more people willing to help you out and help you decide what you want to do. </li>
<li>Rutgers only gave me a 3.5K scholarship, while NEU gave me 20K, so as an OOS, Northeastern is more affordable. </li>

<p>I agree with highachiever793. You should look around the Northeastern and Rutgers threads if you want to gain more insight on both of their pharmacy programs.</p>
<p>highachiever: to point (7) actually, new jersey is the pharma center of the united states and rutger’s strongest field by far. i would say most internships are for pharma companies since so many go there to recruit. </p>

<p>I know that pharmacy is Rutger’s strongest program; however, I heard on CC that not too many people land jobs in hospitals/clinical pharmacy from Rutgers. That could be untrue, though. And wouldn’t everybody be competing for the same internships from a few pharmacy companies? At Northeastern, I feel like there are more options.</p>
<p>To add to my list to why I am possibly choosing Northeastern: Since they accept most AP credits, I would probably be able to minor in something. Rutgers only accepts a max of 8, so you can only AP out of one class.</p>
<p>Rutger’s pharmacy department is considerably more prestigious than Northeastern’s pharmacy department. But like many those who decided Northeastern here, there are a lot of other important factors.</p>
<p>But if you’re mainly worried about just landing a job, go to St John’s. All pharmacies throughout Long Island (NY) have an enormous cult of St John pharmacists.</p>
<p>i cant find anything that says rutgers accepts a max of 8 credits, only that they accept 4s and 5s.</p>

<p>I think that for pharmacy it comes down to personal preference. Make a pro and con list and go where makes the most sense to you. I didn’t end up even applying to Northeastern because it was too far, too expensive (tuition and city living), and I didn’t want to live in a big city. Personally, I am most likely choosing Rutgers because: </p>
<ol>
<li>Cheap in-state tuition (even with a meager scholarship),</li>
<li>Close proximity to home (only like an hour away for me)</li>
<li>Amazing prestige and high ranking</li>
<li>Pharm.D/PhD program (which I may consider)</li>
<li>Rutgers Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowship (you don’t have to be a Rugers student, it just might make it easier to get in)</li>
<li>Rutgers has a lot of majors to transfer to in case I decide to drop out</li>
<li>I just am far more familiar with Rutgers then any other program</li>

<p>I agree with sj0593. It really does come down to personal preference and tuition. In the end, a pharmD degree is a pharmD degree, regardless of USNews rankings. I agree with making a Pros/Cons list and possibly visiting the schools. A lot of things are factors in the decision process.</p>
<p>It’s a year later in this thread and D is in this position. If money is not a primary factor, is there anything that isn’t in this thread, or any factors that have changed in the past year that you would wish to add?
We’ve visited only Rutgers thus far and D was quite pleased with it.</p>
