Could anyone give me a recent description of RVC? A lot of posts on here say that it was known as kind of a boring, quiet residence but is it still like that now that it's coed? the dorms sounds nice other than the fact that it has a reputation for being really boring, especially since i'm interested in music.

RVC is ideal for music: you won’t have to go outside at all to get to either music building. RVC has a great cafeteria with an awesome selection of food. Son’s friends at RVC loved it and he wished he was there. The only thing that his friends didn’t like about RVC was the size of the rooms. RVC does not have a reputation for being a party res the way some of the others do. If you are a music student, because music is relatively small, you will meet tons of music people from a variety of residences and you won’t be that reliant on your own res for your social life.

Thanks for the reply; right now it seems like RVC or Douglas will be my first choice. I was accepted to the freshman program in the faculty of arts because I wasn’t really sure which program to apply to at first. I want to do something with music business or production and since McGill doesn’t really have a specific undergraduate program for that, I just applied undecided with the intention of figuring it out later. Now I think that I would like to major in musicology and minor in music technology. I’m not sure how soon I’ll be able to go into that major, but at least I’ll be able to take a couple of music classes to fill the humanities requirement of the freshman major.

yeah I chose RVC and then Douglas on my housing application.

Here are photos of all the dorms

Thankfully you don’t have to spend all your time in the dorm, but I like the location, food sounds good, I’ve heard good things from a friend who is finishing her U0 about RVC.
