i have SAT coming up december 4th. my november scores were low i got 1430 without studying :( my cousin who is the same age as me and our parents always wants us competing on who is better and such.....he scored a 1900.....his first time
i couldn't believe it .
now i am discouraged and feel like my brain is just not good enough cause no matter how much i study i never do good. i dont understand why. maybe a tumor in my brain, i am not sure. :(
sigh sigh sigh
idk what ill do in life. rest of the week, i am gonna study all night

Don’t be discouraged because of someone else’s score. As long as perform to the best of your abilities and try YOUR hardest, that’s all that matters. Remove all negativity and focus on the positive. Otherwise, how can you expect to do well with a pessimistic mentality?

my parents put alot of pressure on me my dad just called me and told me my cousin’s score. then he said"what’d you get?" im like 1430…and he was like what the hell? what school can you get in with that grade???
i just feel really discouraged now sigh…i always think that i will just do a lil bit better but not 1900+ and it realy does happen :(

Forget about it! Move on!!..If its meant to be, it will be :D

How old are you?

The lower you score, the more points you can gain for next time. I’m sure if you practice for a whole summer you can get at least a 1900.

Instead of being discouraged, why not realize that you can kick ass on the next SAT after this and prove that you are a force to be reckoned with.

Worrying and feeling down will not help. Try to focus on improving your scores. It is possible to increase one’s score a lot. Practicing using the blue book is very helpful especially if you try to understand why you got each question wrong…
Getting used to question types and improving your speed can help a lot.

Good luck.

I am sorry you’re feeling so bad about your first test, but you need to develop a game plan now. There are some amazing students that are very active in this forum that will help you, but you first have to help yourself.

The first thing you can do tonight is download the SAT Practice Test from the College Board website and start working through each section for the rest of the week. If you have a question on any section, post it here and someone will give you an explanation.

You should read Silverturtle’s Guide (at the top of this forum) and see if that helps while you are working through the different sections.

On the critical reading section, look up every vocabulary word you don’t know. Many students including my 2 sons have found the Direct Hits vocabulary books very helpful. They just came out with an eBook version and you can get a free sample downloaded on Amazon for each book. That is probably all you have time for before the test on Saturday and if you feel they are helpful after the test you can download the whole eBook or order the paperbacks.

On the math section, most students make a lot of careless mistakes, so practice being very careful and make sure you read every word before you start trying to work out the problem.

It is not about where you are starting, but where you finish and if you are willing to put in the work, you should be able to make some solid improvement. Good Luck!

thanks alot guys. i am now studying all night for this last week no matter what. i have DH V1 and V2 with 400 words…so far i have learnt about 200. i know. i was rly lazy to learn it . but i am now practicing the math…its not hard just hard to interpret lol idk why but im good at math and im not scorin 700 + sadly, ima do CR to tonight and also my writing is OK except eSSAY :)O

Get a 2300+ and shut him up lol… Then when he asks you what schools you can get into, say, “Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, and Stanford.”

haha! i wish…still struggling a bit with some stuff…should i review the ones i get wrong most? i find that the explanations dont help! idk what to do

Post your troubling questions in a topic on here if you can’t understand CB’s explanations.

You might also consider the ACT, if you have not already taken it. Many students do better on the ACT then they do on the SAT.

Make sure you know the first 100 words cold in the DH Vol. 1 book. There were lots of those words on the October test. In vol.2 the literary terms and words with double meanings should be what you look at first.

Like CalDud and Atlmom said start posting some of your hardest questions here so you can get them explained. Good luck!

Please don’t stay up all night. Being well - rested is really important for success on standardized testing.

P.S
Sorry for correcting your mistakes. I just wanted to show you how it should be.

focus your efforts on math, that is the section that has the best potential for substantially improving your score. Be sure you know the Pythagorian Theorem, the quadratic equation and how to use them. Be sure to memorize the formulas for the areas of basic shapes like circles, triangles and rectangles. Know the difference between the mean, median and mode. Be sure you know how to use your electronic calculator and do practice SAT math tests with the calculator until it is practically an extension of your brain. Make sure to do a dimensional analysis on each problem you do. If they are asking for a length make sure that the answer you get is in meters, feet or some other unit of length. Read each problem carefully and be sure you understand what they are asking for and use all the information they give you in solving the problem, they do not give superfluous information. The math found on the SAT is at a fairly elementary level, mainly Algebra and Geometry, but the questions are designed to test at a fairly high level your reasoning ability in Math. When doing the practice tests and the actual test try to identify and focus on the reasoning needed to solve the problem and do not get bogged down in computations, that is why you have a calculator.

Suleyman, some of your corrections are wrong. Also, there’s no reason to correct OP’s post; he/she is probably feeling bad enough about scoring a 1430 on the SAT. There’s no need to make the OP feel worse.

haha thx guys! yeah its always the same topics over and over, integers , probability and functions and sometimes the word problems! omg it ****es me off … im getting a fever
