Hey all im new to this forum
Im a freshman and my parents are going insane over college. My entire social life is just dying. anything below 95 is starting to be unacceptable.

Today i got my Nov Sat 2 chinese score and its a 790 :( my mom flipped out.

Is it really that bad. I heard that i might as well have failed it if i didnt get a full score. This really sucks. I hate college already.

noooooo!!! a 790 is FANTASTIC. the highest possible is 800, and very few people get this, even a 790...and ESPECIALLY for a freshman, you are talented. I am very impressed :D. I couldn't even break a 700 on anything yet, so super congrats. No, don't stress at all at ALL over this, your parents just want the best for you, although...they seem a bit over zee top. Freshman year colleges don't even consider so don't stress much over it either lol. As for your score, absolutely no worries it's what all the ivies like to see (actually above thier ranges). but it's WAY too early to start stressing over college; regularly, we start like beginning of junior year. p.s. yes it would be completely obssessive to retake a 790, completely. But, if it's your parents that want you to retake it (or are forcing you into it), talk some sense into them; a 790 is fantastico.

aww cut him (or her?) a break! I mean, my god, a 790 is amazing, you guys are rediculous perfectionists who can't even accept an 800, so yes...it's remarkable anyone can get a 790

Haha. I got a 790 in Chinese w/ listening. I'm Chinese (lived in China for 3 years of my life), a junior, and I'm pretty content. The way I look at it, the fact that you -are- Chinese makes colleges go "whatever" when seeing your Chinese scores. Your score's perfectly fine. It won't look bad on your college application, anyhow.

Get used to the new social life, or lack thereof. If your parents are anything like mine, all they want is the best for you, and that means a great college. Social life doesn't matter on the grand scale -- you can wait until college.

So yeah, suck it up. I got over it pretty quickly, anyhow.

Jeremy -- you don't seem to understand. If you bother to look up the statistics, an 800 in Chinese still isn't that high on the percent tile. The reason so many Chinese people take it is because it's "easy" for them to get a good score.

790 on chinese is phenomenal (even if you are native. it would easily be 800 on another test.

tell your friggin parents to CHILL. YOU ARE A FRESHMAN.

I've retaken bio... three times. well bio M twice.

im asian

it sucks to be asian

and ifeel your pain.

I got 560 on German, and I’m happy because I learned language in one month. 790 is amazing, but if it is your native language, why you took it? And if it is not then congratulations!!!!!

A 790 on Chinese is actually quite poor if you are Chinese. More than 1/3 of all test takers achieve a 800 on that test.

Exactly 57% of test takers get a 800 on the Chinese with Listening test, but I am sure that at least 90% of them are native speakers.
A score of 790 is phenomenal if Chinese is a foreign language for you, especially because you are "only" a freshman.
If Chinese is your native language, however, you shouldn't have taken the SAT II in it in the first place.

well u shoulda realize that many of the top colleges dont even take ( or at least dont like to take) scores unless they are within 2 years or something

that means...when ur a senior, this score might not even count

Hmm, I got a 790 and I was actually extremely happy. I'm not exactly a native speaker, but I am Chinese. I guess that won't look too great on my transcript though =/

Would it have been better to not take it? Not all colleges know that any student who is chinese by blood knows how to speak/listen/read chinese though.

Some of my friends have a great advantage--they have lived in my country all their lives (Japan) and their native language is virtually Japanese--but their nationality is not Japanese, and they didn't put Japanese as their native lang. So if they get 800s on Japanese SAT II it's really nice looking -__-
