Thanks, I’ll have to look into the Far West area. My main problem is that no friends want to room with me that far away from campus, which means I’ll either have to get my own room (not really sure I want to be a single female living alone just yet) or find a random roommate (and definitely not sure if that is safe for me, financially). I’m assuming nowhere in the Far West area offers roommate matching?

And is there really nowhere quieter in West Campus? I know most apartments that cater to students are most likely extremely loud, but perhaps something smaller and less well known? Again, thanks so much!

I thought I hated west campus while I lived there because of the noise and the property crime (such as auto break-ins, bike thefts, etc). I now live in Bouldin (just south of downtown) and while I enjoy the quieter atmosphere, I can say without hesitation that living in a more peaceful environment is not worth the incredible hassle of commuting. The convenience of walking to class in ten minutes and being able to go home for lunch or during breaks is more than worth putting up with noise on the weekends.

My suggestion: shop around in west campus and avoid the larger complexes (like Jefferson 26 and The Block) which, in my experience, tend to be extremely loud. In fact, though I lived across the street from a big fraternity house, it was unquestionably the all-night noise from balcony parties at The Block that was most disturbing. I lived in an older, smaller complex and my neighbors were relatively quiet.

jr1038, would you mind disclosing the location where you lived, perhaps in a PM? I am really looking for specific suggestions, but no one seems to want to provide me with anything of that nature. :(

Nothing beats being able to come and go from UT in a few minutes, so West Campus is the best deal. Far West is less expensive and it’s safe and quiet but it also has the longest bus rides.

In West Campus and if you’re a serious student, you definitely want to stay away from the new buildings that try to turn college into a virtual Cancun/Club Med experience.

Older and smaller dumpy buildings are cheaper and quieter, particularly if you get one with a live in manager.

Thinking about the sales guy who keeps posting the austin luxury apartment link - someone needs to post an “older and smaller dumpy buildings” link - that does sound like a quieter option!
