Yesterday I got a semifinalist letter and today I got a rejection letter.

Yes - we contacted the state director after we saw that people were gettiing letters of different kinds from the get go. He is the one that did some checking and informed me our lodge did NOTHING with the aps. (Wasn’t just mine.) VERY sad. He said that we should have gotten letters every step of the way and said “this is not representative of the ELKS organization.”

@saytrue

What happened to your Elks app is awful!! And they are a lot of work, I know. I can’t believe they never got reviewed and passed on from the local level!

Adding myself to the list:

Got a SF letter yesterday and rejection letter today. We shall see, I guess.

Also, my status page has not changed since I viewed it yesterday… I’ll probably send my stuff in anyway.

Actually I’d say that Elks was one of my easier scholarship apps. Coca Cola and Gates (especially Gates, oh my god, the essays) were far more difficult.

I just called and the rep said it was an error, the people who initially received the semifinalist notifications ARE semifinalists, they made an error in sending the rejection to EVERYONE even the semi finalists.

I just spoke to Wal Mart Scholarships. They said if you received the initial email on Tuesday saying that you are a semi finalist you are really a semi finalist. They said the second email that was sent out Wednesday saying that you are NOT a semi finalist was sent to everybody who applied and it was mistakenly sent out to the semi finalists too. I was relieved to hear this news!! The phone number to contact them is 1-877-333-0284 if anyone wants to call them and verify this.

that is such terrific news!!! i am so happy again LOL. what a relief!!!
i’ll call too for confirmation :D

Dear X:

The email that was sent to you on February 23 with the subject line “Sam Walton Community Scholarship Notification” was sent to you in error.

This email is to confirm that your application to the Sam Walton Community Scholarship HAS BEEN SELECTED to advance to the semifinalist stage. Please refer to the email sent on February 22 for further instructions and information.

We apologize for this confusion and, again, want to congratulate you on advancing to the semifinalist stage of the 2011 Sam Walton Community Scholarship competition.

Sincerely,

The Walmart Foundation

YEAH…I just got the email to it read…

Yh so those who received it the first time are semifinalist…whoop whoop

Such amazing news! I’m sooo happy right now.

Dear Applicants,
The Walmart Foundation would like to apologize for the incorrect communication that was sent yesterday to those of you who have been chosen as Semi-Finalists for the Sam Walton Community Scholarship.

If you received notification that you are a Semi-Finalist please refer to your original email to complete the requirements for further judging (submission of documents). The non-winner email was sent to the entire applicant list without removing the Semi-Finalists first. Our deep apologies for the confusion. All Semi-Finalists should have received another email this morning correcting the mistake.

If you received a non-winner email but had never received a Semi-Finalist email first then you truly were not selected to proceed in the competition.

Sincerely,
The Scholarship Manager for the Walmart Foundation

Boss, where’d you find that info?

Got the 3rd e-mail. Still surprised will all the semis that use CC :)

I hope we all win this!

I’m a semifinalist for sure now. Haha so what’s my chances of actually winning this now?

@space I am to. Maybe all of us are the best in our states. I hope we all receive this scholarship as well.

About 50/50.

I read where every Sam’s, Walmart, and Walmart Market grocery is allowed TWO scholarships. When I saw last year’s finalist list, there weren’t nearly that many awarded, esp. not in this area.

31000 applied, 5700ish were semis, and 2800ish were finalists.

I’m still not going to hold my breath. ANYONE ELSE ever wonder what “demonstrate financial need” means? What is the cutoff? Financial need for Colorado School of Mines is a little different than financial need for University of New Mexico, for example.

Yay. I just got the email as well.
joy++;
Good luck, all you semifinalists :)

Are your parents sending in the tax return showing everyones in your family social security numbers? My parents arent comfortable with 5 social security numbers being sent out so they thought maybe they can black out all but the last five numbers like the online application had…???what are you guys doing on that? ALSO it does say COPY of transcript and Sat scores right not official copy with a stamp…is that how you read it?

Copies of transcripts and unofficial(copies) ACT and SAT scores can be sent.

Don’t bother getting the official copies through Collegeboard.
They just need to verify that you are as proficient as you say you are.
Plus they can call your school if they are picky, which I doubt.

I’m not going to black out the SSN, but if you do, they won’t
disqualify you for it. If they do need it and you are a winner, I’ll assume
that they’ll call you or something.

Just my $0.02
