Am i able to change my common application for each college i apply to?

let's say i apply ED to X, EA to F, H, K, and regular decision to Q --- am i able to slightly alter my common application for each application i send out?

or is the application i send out to the first school I apply to the final one? once the first common app is sent out its forever unchangeable?

in my case, when I send out my common app for ED, am i required to use this EXACT SAME app to all the other schools i apply to after?

thank you!!!

I have always read and been told to not alter the common app for each school. However, I do not know your circumstances so maybe you have a good reason.

Either way, when you finish the common app you are asked to pick which schools to send it to. Simply choose the one school you wish to send it to, click send, and then change it as you wish. Rinse and repeat.

Best regards,

You are able to create separate versions of your Common App after having submitted to 1 school. Search the Common App site for directions.

why is do people say not to alter the common application?

Yeah you can change it. Submit it for one college change it, then go and submit it to another. They say not to do it, but you can.

They say not to because there is nothing that’s meant to be specialized. Honestly, I believe it to just be for your own good. If you personalize the common app for each school, you’ll spend a lot more time!

Best regards,

Agreed. The only reason I created multiple versions of my Common App was because my age changed between my EA submission and my RD applications (I have a December birthdate). “Personalization” of your application is best expressed through each college’s supplement.

The only way you can change your common app is if you create a whole new account. Otherwise, everything is just grayed out. Creating multiple accounts can be a pain and you’re only supposed to have one account anyway.

Wait what? We have to make different accounts? Don’t we decide which schools to send the app to at the end?

No, you don’t have to make different accounts. You’re not supposed to. But after you submit the Common App to one school, you won’t be able to change it. Everything’s going to be grayed out.

Ok thank you guys so much!! Much clearer now!
