Lol have fun.

quick question; where you supposed to get an e-mail after you completed the online application?

i’m worried i typed mine in wrong lol…

I didn’t get any confirmation of any sort.

oh ok whew, thanks!

I did not get any such message, either. I’m assuming by the screen that comes up after submitting the online app that it was successful.

Well all applications are due now!
All we can do is wait…

do u know when results come out?

i believe… early may?

puzzlesolver- lmao who knows. your essays sound strong though =)

Hate the waiting gameee

When exactly did people last year get notifications? May-ish?

Also, what do you think about this:
GPA (9-12): 4.06 (they probably look at every year, not just 10-12; my 10-12 is much higher. I’m in my sophomore year though, and i’m not 16 yet.)

Classes: AP Euro, Pre-cal/Trig, Orchestra, H. Chem, PE, English 10 H, Spanish 2

PSAT (in freshman): 171

Extra-curricular: Violin, Piano (how asian), Java, Cross Country, Science Project, AMC 10 and 12 + Mendalbrot (Math contests), around 20 hours community service (playing music and pulling weeds ), SCU Sustainability decathlon…going to be a part of a pit orchestra for a theatre play Drood.

Letters of Reccomendation: Conselor was generic (i never read the final but since we barely know each other he even asked me to add some stuff for him. lol) | Chemistry is highly positive, but also sort of generic. | Math is the most personal out of the three.

Essays: Wow. I’m not sure what to make about the first essay, but I surely downplayed diversity, at least of race-based diversity. I stated how diversity as a culture is crucial, then said an example using biodiversity (actual term). Diversity as a culture involves everyone. Diversity = people who all think in their own way.
Second essay I talked about the science project, and in the last few sentences i related that to diversity as a culture = people who all think in their own way (as i worked on this with a friend).

The reason I need to know is whether to accept my backup summer plan, and I need to know by May 2/May 19th (through a loophole). But preferably May 2nd, hence the need to ask when people got notifications last year. Also, did you get a notification even if you’re not accepted?

Thanks!

I think May-ish.

I was once in that position. (Grade skip twins ;)?)

Lolwut. Elaborate on how that’s an extracurricular; it sounds interesting.

My essays were … good and meh.

If you need to know whether to accept your backup, you should wait until almost May and then call CMU and see if they’ve got your application already reviewed–they may have already declined it :(–or, if not, whether they can review yours soon. Most programs are understanding about these situations.

I didn’t skip a grade; my birthday’s just in a horrible month (September). Almost every program requires one to be 16. After reading so many, and seeing that you could be 15 for this, i had to read it at least 5 times for me to really see that its 15, not 16.

Java: Java as a general sense, not as a class, and although I signed up for the AP Comp. Sci. test (outside of my school), not really pursuing it traditionally. I like it mixed up a bit. Don’t know if that makes a lot of sense Basically using Java not just for class, but to make actual games and such (nowhere close to actually make a new game yet ).

Its an extracurricular because its beyond a typical curriculum. LOL.

Aww :(. Where I live, September birthday = placed in the grade below.

I took AP CS … I dislike Java. Meh.

Would listening to online Yale lectures in the background instead of music count as an extracurricular? :P. I do love open courseware.

"Would listening to online Yale lectures in the background instead of music count as an extracurricular? :P. I do love open courseware. " (Where is the quote button?)

Well, if you really wanted to, you could “phrase” that so that it seems extracurricular-like. You can say that you utilized the lectures for _______ (idk, actually helped you somewhere? Once I listened to UC Berkeley’s Java lectures. They were fun, but it was too slow. 45 minutes for one little thing? No thanks.)

Seriously though, you can practically say anything for extracurricular if it “fall[s] outside the realm of the normal curriculum of school or university education.” (wikipedia) :P

Sorry, CC’s stupid like that. You’ll just have to use the quote and
[/quote]
manually. Same goes for every other tag. (Although, the quick reply feature has a checkbox asking if you want to quote the OP.)

Hmm … “providing advice on Internet forum” … wonder if they would fall for that? ;)

On average, how many kids get into SAMS?

same thing happened to me!!

usually 1000ish people apply and 100ish get in

Do you know if the 100 includes both the rising juniors and the rising seniors?

it’s usually about 30 rising juniors and 60 rising seniors (approximate cuz that doesn’t add up to a hundred but you get the point lol)

appparently, they sent out letters friday!
