@Banker1 I thought that was when you could sign up for your particular time, but that there was going to be a preview on the 1st
@texcalmom May 10th at 10:00am PST.

Ok, I didn’t hear about any preview window. I just know my D needs to sign up for a day right when it comes out 5/10 that doesn’t conflict with our vacation schedule.
Does anyone know if I can change majors right now? From stats to finance so both pre major status. I would prefer to do it before orientation
@coconutty: Call admissions and see if you can change now. Since you have been admitted and have already enrolled, they will probably make you wait until Freshman orientation.
@Gumbymom Yea my concentration is molecular! It just seems similar to the regular bio major. At least I don’t need math, but does that mean my AP Calc credit has no use?
@SmartGurl17: According to the 4 year plan on My map, you need Math 124 which is Calculus for Life Sciences. Although AP credit for this course is not on the list, I would check with SDSU advising to confirm. You may still get elective credit for AP Calculus.
You have several major elective courses which you can use to take courses of interest.
@Gumbymom Oh ok! I thought that it was mandatory to follow the SDSU map and take courses listed… so Can I take elective credit course if I get AP credit for one of the course listed in the map?
@Smartgurl17: I looked up the my map for Biology-Molecular and it shows in year 4, 5 units of general electives and 7 units of major electives so you can take courses that interest you. Also, if you have any AP credit some of the GE’s, this will free up time in your schedule to take more electives.
@smartgurl17 it will go against a GE for math that you will need. It inst wasted.
@bean981 true, but I just can’t believe that bio major doesn’t need Calculus I or even II!!
@SmartGurl17 You will need Calculus for Life Science, so not sure how they will credit that. I would think Statistics should be a pretty important math to take to prepare anyone in the science field, so can’t imagine them giving credit towards that class. My daughter is in the same boat
I’m glad I don’t have to take stats in college! I took AP statistics for a month in the beginning of senior year and boy, was it hard! I didn’t understand a thing :-S
@Smartgurl17 and @texcalmom: If you look at the AP credit for AP Calculus on the SDSU website, a passing score of 3,4,5 gives you credit for Math 150 Calc 1. It does not state anything for Math 124 which is Calculus for Life Science that is a requirement for Biology majors. That is why I stated in the post to check with the Biology department to see if you can get credit. I looked at a couple of other CSU’s and UC’s and most require only 1-2 semesters or 3 quarters of Calculus for Biology majors and it is usually a Calculus geared for these Life Science majors.
My son was an Environmental Science major at UCD and he took 2 quarters of Calculus for Biology majors so not uncommon since Biology is not a Math heavy major.
The lack in Math courses will be made up in the difficulty of the required Chemistry courses (4 semesters).
@Gumbymom Thanks for the info!! It totally helped
I am gonna be super bad at chem If I don’t step up my game… that’s why I was contemplating on taking biochem where they need Calc I and II like my parents wanted me to.
Does anyone know how to increase chances of being assigned to “Cuicacalli” dorms? My son is not required to live on campus but will if assigned to a suite/apartment vs. the crammed dorms. Appreciate any help!
@SDSchools: Since Cuicacalli dorms have several single rooms, he could ask for a single as his top preference.
@Gumbymom - thank you! I just checked and got sticker shock. Ouch $17K min for a single but we really want him to experience college life, so I think we’ll try it.
@SDSchools: Yeah, the singles are pretty pricey. Unless anyone knows which Living Learning Communities will be in which dorms, it is really hard to get to determine your chances at getting your preferred dorm. Since the singles are the most expensive option, this may give him an advantage.
Does anyone know how difficult it is for freshmen to get the classes that they want for first semester? I have to take honor113, and would hope to take stat119 and econ101.
