hey, just wondering the difference between going to SF by AC transit (free with the sticker we'll get, as I've read) or by bart (~5-6ish dollars?)

how much longer does the AC transit bus system take as opposed to the bart?

hey, just wondering the difference between going to SF by AC transit (free with the sticker we'll get, as I've read) or by bart (~5-6ish dollars?)

how much longer does the AC transit bus system take as opposed to the bart?

It may depend on where you are going in the City (never call it Frisco).

AC Transit stops at a terminal on 1st & Mission Streets. BART stops at Embarcadero Center, Montgomery Street, Powell Street and Civic Center, as well as elsewhere in S.F., on it's way to S.F. Airport.

BART runs more often than a bus, and is definitely faster to S.F. than a bus, but the bus may travel closer to your campus dorm.

A bus may take 50 minutes competing with Berkeley and Oakland street traffic, and then freeway and bridge traffic.

A direct BART train from Downtown Berkeley to S.F. Powell Street is about 25 minutes.

Both BART and AC Transit Line F stop running around midnight.

Also you're catching the bus from its starting point, so if you know the departure times in advance you don't have to wait. On eves and weekends, the SF BART from Berkeley only runs every 20 minutes.

BART takes exactly 23 minutes to SF; AC I would guess 30-40 minutes.

It looks like AC Transit also runs "Owl Service" between S.F. and downtown Berkeley BART at 60 minute intervals from 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.

It's bus Line 800 instead of Line F.

One of the benefits of taking the bus is that you get a scenic ride next to the beautiful california coast...plus, the bus stop where you get dropped off is right where you wanna be- the nicest, scenic, beautiful part of downtown San Francisco...plus, you save $6.50! (and quite honestly, its basically the same amount of time...sometimes you get stuck waiting for transfers on the BART, so that eats up a lot of time). Also, as mentioned previously, the 800 runs all night (which makes for some very fun adventures). You won't believe how often you'll be in the dorms and one of your friends will suddenly wanna put off studying and head out to San Francisco...at 3 AM! hahahaha

ah, first year memories...good times, good times :D

haha sounds like good stuff. thanks for the info, i'll have to keep it in mind if i ever feel like a 3am SF stroll

"You won't believe how often you'll be in the dorms and one of your friends will suddenly wanna put off studying and head out to San Francisco...at 3 AM!"

my face just lit up with a huge smile. ahh berkeley. i can't wait for thee!

Yeah, well just wear the wrong colors in the wrong part of town late at night. That's never good to do.

hahaha, this is San Francisco buddy, not Compton...you don't have to worry about the Bloods and Crips coming after you in SF ;)

unless you meant something about the "Gay Mafia" coming after you...haha, anyone who has seen the Will & Grace episode, or Jay Leno's "gay mafia" skit will know what I'm talking about!

I thought the Gay Mafia only went after laptops?

Nawh. You must not know about the 16th St and 24th St Gangs . They aren't as bad as before but red and blue ain't so good at night there. Especially if one gets off at the wrong BART station(s).

well last time i took the bart, a homeless guy peed on me. so yeah. a word of advice: don't take the bart.

if you're going to commute to SF everyday like me, it's a no brainer that you should take the AC transit. if you're going there once in a while to have fun, take the bart because the bus does take around 40-50 minutes to get to the terminal from berkeley, assuming that the traffic isn't too bad on the bay bridge.

personally, i don't like SF.

Golden Bear, 16th St and 24th St in the Mission are not unsafe, a lot of cool young people live there, and many BART there for the bars, cafes, clubs and restaurants. It's one of the most fun areas in the Bay, also the best Mexican food.

There is no such a thing as a "wrong BART station in SF".

Consumed: I've taken BART thousands of times, no one has ever peed on me or anyone else. Generally speaking though, if some homeless guy looks like he's going to pee, it's a good idea to get out of the way ;)
