I got accepted to College of Arts and Sciences as a Presidential Scholar. Apparently that’s full tuition.
To be honest, I didn’t expect this at all, but I’m so grateful.
Here’s my stuff:
4.61 Weighted GPA
36 ACT, 2160 SAT (old), 1570 SAT (new)
800 Math II, 800 Biology (E)
AP Tests: seven 5’s, one 4
My extracurriculars are mostly working as a math tutor, playing varsity tennis, and helping at church with Confirmation students. I also have some awards from school, maybe one or two regional awards in math and science, and I’m a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist.
I go to a California public high school, so there’s that, too.
My recs were from my AP US History teacher, AP Statistics teacher, tennis coach, employer, and youth minister.
I initially didn’t really consider SCU to be a good option because of the cost, but with the aid I may end up here instead of an Ivy, especially if I get rejected from them. Both of my parents are alumni of SCU as well.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks!
Accepted - Early Decision (School of Engineering)

Varsity in Cross Country and Junior Varsity in Track
My S accepted EA in School of Engineering for Computer Science and Engineering as his declared major. How good is the program. Congratulations to all who were accepted.
He is seriously considering SCU. What are the advantages vs going to UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara or UC San Diego CS programs?
@BiomedFather I guess the advantage to Santa Clara would be smaller class sizes, especially with General Education requirements and the proximity to Silicon Valley. Also you are likely to be taught by an actual professor instead of graduate students. If you want the rankings, then the UCs are obviously better known.
Also if you maintain a 3.5+ GPA it is possible to go through a 5 year program at SCU where you earn both your BS and MS in any engineering discipline.
@bogeyorpar the letter indicated just 'School of Engineering". I called admissions and they confirmed that declared major was Computer Science and Engineering.
Hey,
So I applied EA, and am seeing many people have gotten a reply already. When I logged into my portal, it said it was incomplete until I send my mid-year grades. Is this what I need to do to get a response? Or did any of you get a response before you did so…How should I go about sending this report? thanks!
@Bellone you need to call financial and ask if it’s guaranteed all 4 years. My guess is that if it’s need based, you need to reapply every year. If it’s merit, it’s guaranteed if the students maintains the award’s stated standards.
Accepted from Leavey School of Business

btw guys have you heard any news about the merit-based aid? It’s basically late December, yet I haven’t heard anything about it.
Hi there - in our daughter’s offer letter, it said financial aid/merit would come by mail by late December. Still nothing.
Her stats are very strong from one of the best high schools in the country and she got a huge merit award from a higher ranked school since. Did anyone actually get a late December package with the financial information, whatever it is? (Even if it’s full pay!)
