<p>How much emphasis does Barnard put on these standardized tests?</p>

<p>The official party line is that it's just one aspect of your application, looking for a whole student, yadda yadda...</p>

<p>But somehow, most "whole students" have SATs between 1300 and 1500. </p>

<p>Generally, though, the school will accept lower scores (within reason) when a student is really interesting in other ways.</p>

<p>When I talked to an admissions officer, she said it is the last thing they look at. With that, highly competitive schools generally like to keep their competitive status with high test averages. A place like Barnard does try to look at the whole student (why I'm applying), and try to get a school of really independent-minded young women. </p>
