I'm wondering which test I should take in October (SAT I or II), the last testing day before applying early to Stanford. So far I have:
SAT I
March:
680 CR / 790 M / 750 W - 2220
June:
730 CR / 740!?! M / 780 W - 2250
Best combined - 2300

SAT II (Stanford wants 2)
Math IIC - 800
Physics - 760

Should I take the SAT I again or should I study for some SAT IIs (I have chemistry and US history in mind). Engineering major.
Thanks

Which do you think you can do better on? If you feel you've reached your plateau when it comes to SAT I scores, then maybe you should take SAT II. Both sets of scores are fine, but for Stanford nothing is secure. Do they definitely look at your highest composite score for SAT I? If you chose to retake SAT II, which would you take and how well would you do?

*Additionally, there is always the possibility of taking the ACT and then SAT IIs.

Your decision really comes down to this: Can you raise your SAT I math (740) or can you score above a 760 on the SAT II Chem or US History? Did you take any AP's and if so what were your scores? For example, a 5 on the US AP or Chem would suggest a strong liklihood that you will score at or near an 800 on the SAT II in these subjects. By the way, we both had the same version of the June SAT. How many verbal and how many math did you miss? Wondering about the scale.

sunnyboy, I missed 5 questions on that verbal section. 3 on math. I thought I missed less. What was your score?
I would say I would do better on chemistry since I'm pretty sure I got a 5 on the AP (probably a 4 on history) but I hear that a humanities SAT II would show well-roundedness. And with SAT I people tell me it's not a good idea to take it 3 times but if this is true (from another thread):

"This is a fact: ALL THAT IS REPORTED ARE TOP SAT I SCORES (and NOT the number of times you took the SAT I). When they get your computerized application (it goes through a process before they read it), it will say something like this:

SAT I: M: xxx CR: xxx"

then I think SAT I is the way to go. I know I can get an 800 in math and I'm pretty sure I can break 750 in verbal. I do need a third SAT II for schools that require 3 so I can take that in November.

I agree with your reasoning. Retake the SAT I in October and pick up the third SAT II in November. Here on the East Coast we have been repeatedly told to take the SAT I as many times as we wish. UNC - Chapel Hill specifically said take the test as many times as you want we will input your highest scores. Fair enough. As you already know, Stanford will be very tough regardless of how high your scores are. Colleges like to see a "passion" and community servce to go along with high SATs. Important to keep that in mind. As for my June SATs well I missed one and got a 790 on the verbal and scored exactly the same as you on the math. The new scales are very tough. I was quite nervous about the essay. There was no time to calmly think about the topic and write down an outline. Felt enormous pressure as people around me started to write. So I did too. Wanted to have a break after the essay. Unfortunately the math scale is really brutal. Normally I like to solve the questions in my head and on paper. Rarely use the calculator. But will have to change this strategy for October. I felt there were fewer reasoning questions on the math than before. Believe that the calculator will be a plus. Also I really didn't have time to check my answers so I undoubtedly made a careless mistake. Good luck!

Maybe the fact that I came to the US six years ago will help a little. I want to take the SAT a third time because I feel that 2300+ (in one sitting) would best represent me. I hope to break 2350 in October.
I always thought missing even 2 would still give you an 800 but not even one?
Are you applying anywhere early sunnyboy?
