SAT & APUSH: AMSCO or REA better?

Hi guys, this is my first post on the forum, although I've lingered here for quite a while...so excited :)
I'm going a junior the coming year, and I've pretty much set my plan to spend parts of the summer break preparing for the SAT & AP US History exams. After consulting some previous threads, I think for the SAT II The SAT II US His for Dummies and Kaplan would suffice. Now i'm torn between the AMSCO and REA AP History books. I'm trying to prepare for my AP US History course i'm going to take next year, or perhaps I hope one of those two books would be a nice supplement for my SAT US History prep experience.
So which one do you think is better: AMSCO or REA AP US History?
(I'm aiming for a 5 on AP and 750+ on the SAT II US His)
Thank you so much; I've always loved CC for its supportive environment :)

AMSCO for long term (a month or longer) study.
REA for short term (1 or 2 weeks) study.
I tried both those AP books as well as the Kaplan SAT II US History. Managed to get a 5 and 790. Good luck.

Thank you Intel2007 !
Anyone else ?

i looked at my friends REA, and its kinda...dry. It might be good if you're dedicated, but it seems like a textbook to me. It's review questions are also kind of simple. Try AMSCO

Thanks, Cory123.
I think I'll go with AMSCO now :)

can AMSCO be read in a week?

i plan to read it by friday, the day of my test :D

I swear by AMSCO, which I read in less than a week.

I started on 4/30 and finished on 5/4. Retained a surprising amount of information. I skipped the DBQ guides and the supplementary documents to the Historical Perspectives. I also didn't take the practice test at the end of the book. Make sure you do the review questions at the end of each chapter, however. Absolutely critical, and go through each important term/person at the end of each chapter and make sure you understand why it/he/she is significant. This was all for the SAT II, which I took today.

My journey of reading included long night phone calls with my girlfriend until 3 or 4 AM the first two nights. Then I realized there's no way I could finish the book, so I stopped calling her the rest of the week. I also did absolute bare minimum hw/studying for other classes this week.

Would I reccomend putting it off until a week or two before your exam? Absolutely not. This was really stupid of me. But I think I scored at least 750. I'll let you know how it turned out when I get a score report.

Seriously, I'd go so far as to say that the AMSCO is all you really need if you wanted to take APUSH indepedent study.

AMSCO all the way, but maybe its because im so used to reading BRINKLEY that anything without 40+ pages a chapter is Godsend

hey i used REA for the AP.. and studied from it for the SATS too.. its pretty good.. it gives pretty detailed summaries, and i thas 6 practice tests in the end with detailed answers.. but i'd go for this only if you have atleast 2 months left.. cuz it is a lot of info.. but its still a really good book to pick for prepping!

barron's isnt a bad choice either. it is very comprehensive and has alot of random information that pops up on the sat iis
