Hey guys, in preparation for next year, I was looking on the college board website to see when I would be able to take the tests. Is it a good idea to take the SAT on October 10th and then take the PSAT on the 14th?

I was thinking that the SAT would be good prep for the PSAT.

I did, and it doesn’t really make a difference one way or another. I got 2150 Oct. SAT and the 207 PSAT

thanks. Any other advice?

no its never better to take it early when you still have so much time to prep

That’s way too early to take the test. The point of the PSAT is so you have an idea of how well you’re going to do on the SAT. To take the SAT first would defeat this purpose.

The SAT is a bit different because you will write a short essay. My recommendation would be to take the money and time you would spend for the SAT to buy a PSAT study guide and study for that test. It can mean some nice opportunities if you score well. You will have many chances to take the SAT.

if your goal is to first do well on the PSAT, why not just get PSAT/SAT prep books? no need to take an official test yet.

ok thanks.
So I guess the general consensus around here is that I should wait to take the SAT later. What resources should I have for the PSAT this fall then?

if you want, you can pick up the Official SAT Blue Book and study most of that (disregard the essay section). Or just pick up Barron’s PSAT or something.
