SAT Best Motivational Routine/Techniques??

Hey guys!

I’m a rising junior in Texas and I was wondering if there are any tips for motivational study techniques or just simply advice in general to increase my score. I currently have a 1760 on my SAT and I’d like to raise it up to 2180+ within the course of these three months. I currently have the Dr. Chung’s Math Book, Blue Book, 5th Edition Direct Hits Vocabulary books, and I am currently enrolled in a classroom Testmasters Course. However, I need to implement an effective method to ensure that I will improve my scores with the help of this study material. So for that, I was wondering if anyone has a good strategy or routine to improve SAT score!!

Thank you in advance!

You need to build your own motivation. Your BB is your best study guide. Take each Saturday a test on the same conditions as the real one. Then try to look all the mistakes you did on that test and practice a lot until you can do the problems you got wrong. Direct hits will help you to build a strong vocab. Also get the pwnthesat math book, the ultimate guide of the SAT grammar by Erica Meltzer, and the SAT prep black book. You CAN do it and never give up.

I’ve found that fear of a hopeless future with no meaningful opportunities can be a good motivator.

Self motivation and self starting are very hard to do. It’s probably why tutors can be so effective because they help you stay focused and accountable. This isn’t an option sometimes for a variety of reasons.

What should you do instead? People are very good at following habits. Create a long term goal: get 2180 on the SAT. Break it up into smaller goals: improve Math by 100 points. Break those goals into even smaller goals: do 100 practice problems a day. Break that down EVEN further: start by answering 5 questions a day and add 2 questions every day until you reach 100 questions a day. After a while, you’ll have developed your own habit or routine. Take into account that I am oversimplifying this process.

You want to create small digestible goals so that you feel the progression in your actions; otherwise, it will feel like doing the same boring thing ad nauseam. The toughest part is cracking open your books to START studying. The second toughest is staying focused.

Also as you reach significant goals (e.g. answer 85% correctly or reached 50 questions a day), give yourself a reward. In the words of Donna and Tom from Parks and Recreations, “Treat Yo Self!”

Hope that helps!

Thank you so much!
