SAT Biggest Improvement Stories

This really isn't sat, but I went from a 172 on my sophomore PSAT to a 214 on my junior PSAT. Hopefully, my SATs will reflect a continuing upward trend... :)

PSAT - 159
SAT (March) - 2020

This time expecting at least 2150+.

Took a LOT of practice tests (10,11), and about 5/6 books (PR, Barrons, CollegeBoard, Kaplan, and I read other books just about Critical Reading and Writing). Have got a huge compilation of essays as well (~20). Once I break 2300, I'm prepared to start my own tuition system for other people. :D

Ok, from my standardized testing scores, I seem to be getting dumber and dumber every year.

8th Grade (old SAT): 1380 (780 Math, 600 CR)

Sophmore (PSAT): 221

Junior (PSAT): 220

Junior (March SAT): 2000 (710 Math, 640 CR, 650 Writing)

so it seems like the combined math and CR scores from my 8th grade test are better than my junior year scores. yeeesh. but i feel confident that i broke 2200 this time

any explanations for my stupidity?

I did much better on the old SATs than on the new SATs(red book).. I think the older tests were easier...math at least

this thread sounds like a weight loss program...
i'd say my biggest jump was psat sophomore year of 192 to junior year 227...i did not do a thing...like someone else said, i just got older...

I've been hoping to bump this thread

soph PSAT: 157(0)
junior PSAT: 186(0)
May SAT (1st time): 2200

630 improvement in less than two years, and 340 in 7 months :)

Jan 26th SAT (first time): 550 math

May 3rd SAT: 690 math

Up 140 points! It is possible!

How I did it: I did a ton of old practice tests, timed them whenever I could and just did practice when I couldn't. My goal was to get used to as many types of questions as possible, so that when I got to the test and saw something familiar I would know how to tackle the problem. Needless to say, it worked. :-)

Jan 26th SAT: 630 writing (essay:10)

May 3rd SAT: 750 writing (essay: 12)

YEAH! 120 points higher!

How I did it: umm. I studied with a friend who got an 800 and used his little tricks like if trying to figure out if a comma is necessary, say the sentence out loud with a pause where the comma is. I also used sparknotes sat book and for each little writing section i would do a chunk over and over until I did the section without mistakes or omissions. PM me if you want more ideas.

I improved my score 200 points exactly from March to May... I really think that having the right attitude contributed to the jump. In March I was pretty nervous and didn't know what to expect... also, I took it on the day of a big snowstorm in this indoor track and it was really cold in there. I had my jacket on and other people were shivering... so that was terrible haha. In May I took it at a different place and was just like "eh whatever, it's the 2nd time I'm taking it and I'll take it again in the fall so no worries." I've talked to lots of people who say they've seen their biggest jump when they go in somewhat apathetic...

So my advice is to do the prep work and go in with a laid-back, confident attitude...

7th grade: 600 Verbal 660 Math 1260 (old SAT)

Sophomore PSAT: 58 Critical Reading 67 Math 60 Writing, 185

Junior PSAT: 75 Critical Reading 76 Math 75 Writing, 226

Junior May SAT: 730 Critical Reading 800 Math 780 Writing, 2310

I took the PSATs this Octuber for the first time and got a 166. Just took the May SATs for the first time and got a 1900. :D I'm hoping to break 2000 when I take it again in my senior year.

I had a massive improvement. I feel so proud.
1st 2nd
CR: 690 ---> 770
M: 560 ---> 640
W: 670 ---> 730

1250/1920 ---> 1410/2140

It goes to show that you can do much better with practice and just taking the SAT a second time. = ] I wish everyone the best of luck.

wow.
you inspire me :D

my scores are similar to your first score.
how long was the gap betwwen the tests?

---March ----> May
CR: 640 -----> 750
M: 710 ------> 800
W: 650 ------> 760
Essay: 8 ----> 10
Total: 2000 ----> 2310

I truly have no idea how i improved so much. i guess i just bombed the march test.

Last year: 1910 (really sucky, i know)
March 08: 2080 (kinda improved but was still unhappy)
May 08: 2270 (better, but still not fully satisfied; but im done lol)

Just to ask, when u r reporting your scors, you writed the supercourse or? I have also taken May SAT ( my results are still not available) but I am afraid, I did it worst than ever. I could not fathom how guys, you have 750 or higher on R?

May

Yes, the hard work actually pays off.

March SAT: 2050 (ugh)
May SAT: 2230 (!!!)

ACT, on the other hand:

lol 34 34. My friend took the SAT twice and got the same score of 1700 something. funny. jsut thought i would mention. And Boris, my scores are right where yours are at. How much did you prep in between those tests?

I know. I was really mad because I wasted a Saturday morning for nothing. I'm not even sure why exactly I retook it... I'm very, very happy with my score (and with my new SAT score as well)!
