last october i took the test (2007) and got 2030

i took it again in jan, preparing CR and writing MCQ & essay with a teacher

and got 2250

then i retook it this may and got a 2370!

trust me
if u keep going at it with CR and writing MCQ (ESPECIALLY the diction stuff),
you get a feel for it, and well..you get there eventually.

did u do SAT non stop, or did u take a break.? b/c i haven't touched any SAT stuff since may 3rd b/c i need to focus on AP, finals, and subjects

jumpngo: I prepped a decent amount and took as many past real tests as I could. I would say that my first score wasn't actually a good indicator of my ability back then because I got really nervous for the test. But still, taking tons of practice math sections helped me a ton...I got used to all the problems and it just came so easily.

voodoo, I'm right where your at. My freshman & sophomore PSAT's were
1400< but < 1600; My junior PSAT was in the 1600s, and my MAY sat was 1900. I just want to get 700s in everything... Seeing a 6 in the hundreds place is so =[.

yup...this summer consists of: SAT PREP, harvard, then MORE SAT prep...then college apps. (real fun summer) thanks for making this thread...it's at least a source of motivation :)

October 2006 PSAT: 210
December 2006 SAT: 2120 (710 CR, 670 M, 740 W, 11 essay)
March 2007 SAT: 2310 (750 CR, 760 M, 800 W, 12 essay)

Scored a perfect on writing, 80 MC correct no wrong, and 12 on the essay! I have to say though, I did tons of Kaplan writing exercises that really helped a lot.

190 point jump, almost 200 points! Completely bypassed the 2200 range :)

I got 2 wrong on sentence completions (out of a total 4 wrong for CR), which probably robbed me of 2350... but oh well, not going to complain. My goal was to break 2350, but breaking 2300 I was satisfied as well, haha.

As for math, I got 1 wrong and 1 omitted--thus a 760. Pretty harsh curve.

I took test prep, but the main thing that really helped me, I felt, was taking my own time to self-study and do lots and lots of practice after learning some test-taking skills and techniques. You have to master the test format too in order to do well. Practice, practice, practice.

Boris, jumpngo, we're probably the in same range lol.
my october SAT 1430( cr 420, m 600, w 410, lol i know,pathetic scores)
and in the same month, i took psat 159 ( cr 48, m 70, w 41 IRONIC WRITING NO?)
may SAT 1800 -.- ( cr 550, m 710, w 540 essay 8)
im so disappointed at my writing score 540, i always get like 650+- in practice, maybe i had a bad day lol.
next october,im going for 2100+

October 2006 PSAT (freshman year): 157 (54 CR, 50 M, 53 W)
October 2007 PSAT (sophomore year): 192 (67 CR, 61 M, 64 W)

What did I do? Nothing. I didn't freak out about it and simply took the test. SOme of my other friends (who are, without a doubt, much smarter than me, freaked out and did about 40 points worse then me.) Hopefully with a little studying and a relaxed attitude, I'll break 210 on the PSAT this October and then 2200 on the December SAT.

this was interesting...PSAT score: low 1900 something (junior yr) couple months later SAT: 2090, then took it again, 2150...studied kaplan, blue bk, and princeton review...just did practice tests...very helpful

sophmore psat:169 (44,80,45)
junior psat:207 (62,80,65)
i dunno, i just wrote a lot in class for essays and stuff, so I guess that helped. but i didn't do any formal studying otherwise.

may sat...2010...(600,800,610)
I didn't study, thinking my score would just continue to improve, it was a poor choice. I'm going to study over the summer a lot, since I want to break 2150.

lol i have a "deprovement" story. Freshman year PSAT : 154, Sophmore Year October SAT: 1460 (470 Cr, 480 M, 510 W), and same month coupla days later, Sophomore PSAT : 153.... i know... freshman year was probably the best.

i did Princeton review for PSAT prep and got a 194 on the diagnostic test.. and guess what i got on the end test after 10 hours of sessions? 194

167 PSAT Junior Year ----> 2100 SAT June of Junior year.
I started studying in like march for the june test and my score went up 430 points. I was psyched!!

Kind long SO here is goes...
my PSAT score was a 167 when I took it in the fall of my junior year. I was kinda depressed because there were more than like 20 people who qualified for national merit and tons who scored in the 180-190 range. That kinda got me motivated. So i looked over some practice book stuff before I went to a testing center and took a diagnostic test. i got a 1780. So i guess it went up a little right away. but then i set up a schedule for a study plan. Every saturday morning from 8-10 i would meet with a study group/tutor depending and would work over problem sets. In addition to this I also worked sections on my own. honestly though i didn't do many until the month before the June test. I ended up doing all the bluebook tests before i took it in June. I ALWAYS timed my sections and wouldn't allow myself extra time. I thought to myself you dnt get any during the test so why should I practice with more.
As for my vocab...i would pick a couple words and try to use them during the day. i know it sounds dorky but it worked pretty well. When i used them i would always remember the words.

During my saturdays i ended up going through CR and Math SAT strategies books. Every month I took another diagnostic test. My second test which was at the end of april I got a 1960. Then I took another at the end of may and got a 2040.
on the June SAT i ended up getting a 2100.

Most of my work was done friday nights and saturday mornings. It sucked not really having social friday nights but i just told myself it will only be 2 months of this and then it will all be over. At the end of May i cranked things up a bit and would do maybe two/three sections every other night night.(since i was only doing correct timing, that is only like 50-70 minutes every other night.) nothing insane by any means. It was just to keep my mind in SAT mode and to have it thinking like the SAT. I think people way way way way overanalyze when it comes to studying. Like it is more effective in my opinion to spread it out over time. do one section a night for 3 months

then again i think that a lot of it was a didn't care about the PSAT at all. and then I woke up and realized i was toying with my future so i kicked into gear.
I think that when someone pulls a score up pretty high it is more about getting familiar with the test than anything else. They always were capable of dgetting that score....they just had bad time management skills or didn't know what to expect

I took a bunch of CB SAT/PSAT exams and just got used to the questions. Although being almost a year older invariably contributed to the score rise.
