So, next year I will be in Chemistry Honors (No AP Chem at my school and I haven't taken any Chem course yet), and I plan to get my SAT Subject Tests done by either November or December. How difficult would it be to self study for the Chem exam and get a reasonably good score (750+)? I would probably start sometime this Summer in late July/early August if I would self study. Maybe an added benefit is that I'll go into the class knowing a lot. I already did Physics and Math 2, but I plan to retake Math 2, along with maybe taking Literature and Spanish. I wonder if it would be way too much.

I used the Barron’s book and took Chemistry Honors got a 780, so it’s definitely possible. Just make sure that you know the book well, and you’ll be fine. The test is much easier than Barron’s as well, so don’t get too worried. It depends: will you be doing a lot of studying for Literature and Spanish, or just practice tests because thy come easier to you?

I took the test having only taken honors chem, and I used the Barron’s book. I’d say the trickiest topic is lab setups just because without AP chem you won’t be familiar with them, and Barron’s doesn’t really explain the purpose of each piece of equipment in a setup, even though questions like those show up on the test.

As for multiple tests, I think you might want to drop one, especially if you’re a rising senior. Maybe not retake math II or drop one of the humanities. It would just take too much time studying to get a good score while still balancing everything else. Studying for four is a bit much imo, just because colleges usually only ask for two, if any.

My reasons for wanting to take Spanish is that I am only able to complete 3 years of Spanish due to scheduling difficulties, but maybe it would be really difficult to study for. I want to do Literature to have a humanities. I am definitely retaking Math 2 (730) to try for an 800. Chem is just a thought because it would be great to do well on another science (800 on Physics), but I would have to do a lot of self-studying.

If I intend to major in Physics, would a good Chem score matter that much? Studying for Math 2 some more would not be very hard for me, and I will only take Lit if I can start doing well on practice tests pretty quickly.

Hi I’ve only taken honors chem and in a situation where i wont be able to take ap. I also had a terrible teacher and while I learned some, our class didn’t touch on many concepts. I tried learning out of Barron’s but I’m getting confused on some topics and the highest I’ve been scoring was a 580-610 on the Barron’s … Is there any way I can get near 800 with a few more this of practice? I’m thinking about getting the zumdahl textbook. Would that be helpful at all? I also have the PR.
