SAT Critical Reading and Stanford Engineering

Hello all, I just completed my junior year of high school in California and have a good academic record. I have taken around 80 units at the local community college in calculus base phyiscs, computer science, and second year calculus (diff eqs, multi variable, and linear algebra). Since freshman year i have maintained a 5.0 weighted GPA and taken several AP classes.

My real question is the following: I got a 2220 on my last SAT, with a 790 in math, 770 writing, and 670 CR. The CR score bugs the hell out of me, and I am taking the ACT in a week in hopes of doing better on that reading section. I also have 800s on SAT II Math Level 2 and Physics.

How do you guys think the 670 in CR will affect my chances are at Stanford Engineering (EE/CS) specifically? Will it substantially effect my chances, and should I consider retaking the SAT for a higher super score? Thanks!

Stanford does not make the distinction between engineering majors or the whole school, so it really doesn’t matter if you plan on majoring in CS or EE or Art History, because when you are admitted, you are admitted to the whole school.

Was that your first time taking it? If so, it wouldn’t hurt to retake if you think you can move the CR score.

second time. first time i got a 2040, with something like 640 on CR. I still may retake it in the fall if I don’t do very well on the ACT. I’m really just unsure how much of a negative impact a 670 will make, given my interest in science anyways and high scores in math and writing. I mean, a 2220 is higher than Stanford’s average of around 2150.
