SAT Critical Reading thread

Anyone remember the options for the biofuel one where they ask you to label each passage? I know one was passage 1 criticizes what passage 2 sees as potentially useful. What were the others?

cladbury, are you saying that you chose it is the most common ingredient or that it is practical and aesthetic?

and the other choices i think were “passage 1 shows concern and passage 2 says that biofuels defects are too exaggerated”…and thats about it. the other choices were all bogus

@ anonymous the right answer was that the first passage talks about biofuels only and the second talks about other energy sources.

I don’t think that being common was an answer. I’m just saying that it couldnt have been the one that said musk is rare. It’s not. You can look it up.

@chinaboys we are not talking about the same question. i did choose that answer for the question you are talking about.

guys what did you put for the “poetic rift” question for the Barbara Jordan passage?
i put that it described the effect jordan had on her audience.

critical reading is always the hardest part…lets just all hope for a good curve:D

@stevenydc
That’s your opinion…everyone has his/her opinion on what’s the hardest “section”.

@rd2012
I said the same yo.

@bob12345
just curious: what did you for the form one? like “type” vs “aspect”
and what did you say for the war diary question about the paragraph 4? where he was talking about his emotions vs. where he was giving advice to other writers

@rd2012
u r right “characterize the effect”

@anonymous
Could you please repeat the question with possible answer choices, sorry/

i’m asking the same question iBelieveSo is asking… one of the questions for the war passage said “how does paragraph 4 differ from the previous paragraphs” and paragraph 4 was about all the airplanes in the sky and bombs and just anarchy that comes with the war. i chose “it shifts from his personal problems to war problems” but (i think) iBelieveSo said its a shift from his emotions and giving advice to the other writers

are “animus” and “brusqueness” definitely right? i thought i had an 800, then i go get two vocab wrong.

what do you guys think the curve is going to look like? it seems a bit harder than june, when i got 4 wrong and a 750. is there any hope for me to get a 780? also, can someone make a list?

@iBelieveso
It’s hard to remember the “form” question unless you are more specific…
If you give me the options for how paragraph 4 was different, I can tell you which one I chose. However, I can’t recall the answer out of the blue.

should i cancel if i think that this score will be lower than my previous test score? i got a 2270 on the november test, and i’m scared that i scored lower than 2270 :frowning:

so far: -3 (if the “Drawing on the experiences…” is wrong) writing with a terrible essay, -0 math, and -4 CR (if skittish is wrong and the “musk = common ingredient” is wrong)

i know this forum pretty much reached a consensus on the UN nation independence one for Barbara passage, but how come the mayor option wont work? i chose the “small town mayor publicly announcing running for governor” b/c it seemed like african americans were finally obtaining huge roles in history… idk… :frowning: ugh

the form question was “what does form in the context most nearly mean?” and the sentence was like “Storytelling is a form of lie because in order to remember it one must meet its fixative in order to save it from oblivion”

i dont remember the answer choices for “how does paragraph 4 differ”, but do you remember if you chose an answer along the line of “paragraph 4 focuses on the impacts of war” or something like that?

@anon that was a dif question, i put the same as you did. what i was asking was a dif question

@bob the question was like: what is the purpose of paragraph 4? and the only two viable choices i remember were something like: “to show that he is going to control his emotions” and another one was like “to give advice to other writers”

@iBelieveSo - i know it wasnt the “to give advice to other writers” b/c i remember crossing it out as one of the choices… i dont know if i picked “to show that he is going to control his emotions” but maybe i did considering that he was trying to control it by writing a diary

@iBelieveSo i remember that question though. it was right before the question about how paragraph 4 differs from other paragraphs.

i think it was that the paragraph started to focus on the impact of the war on the people or something like that
