SAT Dilemma

Here is my problem. I recently took the SAT (January 22) and received a:

700 (Critical Reading)
710 (Mathematics)
730 (Writing)

I was planning on stopping there, but I recently decided to re-take my SAT to try and improve my Math and Writing scores. However, I haven't been preparing and now the March SAT date has very nearly arrived.

The problem is, if I take the March SAT and don't break 2200, what must I then do? I have to take the SAT 2 Chemistry and Math sometime this year. I was thinking about taking Chemistry in May (it would be right after the AP test) and Math IIc in June. However, should I move both to June and plan on re-taking the regular SAT in May?

One step at a time…you’ll know your March scores before you need to make any decisions about the May or June tests. That said, if you haven’t been preparing you probably shouldn’t set your hopes too high on a massive improvement…taking the test the same way you did last time will likely result in a very similar score.

You’ve still got TONS of time to work on the SAT, though. November is usually fine even for early applications, and December is fine for regular. See how you do in March, but don’t panic yet. There’s lots of time to improve.
