SAT Discussion for International Students-Diff test!

Well guys, CB is up to their nasty deeds yet again and now int'l candidates have a completely different test with (I think) different experimental sections. So hooray!! for the mega pain in the butt that int'l students (like me) will have when deciding whether or not to cancel their scores.

So here are some of my responses. Please let me know if any are wrong. Feel free to discuss all questions/answers.

MATH

4pi*r^3-answer to the cylinder question

2*3^.5 for the length of AB (the question with similar triangles one of which with leg x and hyp. 2x. A circle was drawn as well)

y=k/j*x for the slope question (last question b4 fill-ins)

58= number of integers (fill-in answer). Numbers that were valid were 2<x<59.

x=3, x=7 for the one with curve f(x)= x^2+bx+c. This question include point 5,-4 as the minimum and f(1)=f(9)=12. You had to use simlt. equations. Final equation to solve was x^2-10x+21=0.

2/3 and 10/7 were some grid in answers.

21 was the question with marbles (black=3*#red...something like that). Question asked to find possible #of total marbles.

Answer to the triangles in rectangle question (number 10) was 1/8. This was a super-hard for a question 10 (at least for me). You had a triangle with the width with the same width as the rectangle but its height is 1/2 the length of rectangle. This means that if the area of rectangle is 16 (16 height, 1 width=this is just plugging in) then area of triangle is 4. Now for the bigger triangle, the height was 3/4 the rectangle's length, which means the area would be 6. The area of smaller triangle is 6-4=2. Percentage of total is 2/16=1/8.

Answer to the question with all values in set X are in Set Y was D i think. Others didn't work in all cases.

If someone can list the fill-ins from 15-18 it would help because i forgot them.

CRITICAL READING

CR was a tough b*it&h. Some words i remember that were on the test (not necessarily right or wrong) are: filibuster, gerrymandering, chicanery, zeal, debilitated, remonstrance, dissolute,dilapidated (this was a right answer--to bad i got it wrong. +_____+), pompous, (this was CR), and inquisitive (CR as well).

Experimental was Disneyland one i think. Not to sure which vocab was on that part of the test. Any help on that issue would be nice. Here is what other passages i had (maybe to jog your memories): one about a weatherman, one about genetics/lullabies, one about an African American businessman, another about Disneyland, and finally one about female artists/social society.

WRITING

For the writing section, there was one which was really ambiguous. The one about the vice-president's announcement. It something like"workers on the project". It was difficult to discern whether or not the "on" was referring to the ill-will (which would make it wrong) or the workers were literally members of the project.

Also for number 13 on section 10 i put the red cross lady "and would be...". I was thinking about putting B (something about "equal as paid a man"), but changed last minute. Might be wrong on that one.

Additionally for the one about the Maio statues that the villagers destroyed during "warfare", I said that "have themselves" was incorrect because the verb was not in the proper form.

Finally for the one about the vice-presidential family, i put E no error. That was quite tough as well.

Um, for math, I think I had # marbles=14 (was that even a choice? do you remember the exact question?). The rest of my answers were the same as yours.

OH, and btw, where are you from?

Im in france.

The marbles question asked for total number of marbles. Only possible one was 21, i double checked, but still could be wrong.

PS: Gerrymandering was experimental.

haha, I triple checked ALL my answers, but I still could be wrong, too XD. (or most likely, getting 2 questions confused)

OH, cool, I'm in Quebec!

For math, i got k/j*x + k, because i picked numbers (1 for k, 2 for j) and the y-intercept was around 2... not sure if this is correct.
I agree with the rest of your math answers- what did you get on your psat for math? Are you a "math person"? Haha because if you are i'm feeling PRETTY DARN GOOD about myself right now... :)

I've heard that the constellation/weatherman passages might have been the experimental ones, but i hope dearly that it was the African American businessman one... at that point i lost my focus slightly (got it back later) because there was an owl hooting VERY LOUDLY outside our window. Boo.

Hmmm... oh yeah, there was one answer that was 2^(2n) i think... it was answer E.
Andddd... for the MAio statues i said it was the verb too because they did it (past tense) not had done it.
Vice president family i also put no error...and also put "equal as paid a man" for that one section 10 question.
What about the CR machines don't ______ if something something so it's best if they are ______? (Or something to that effect)... i put the fail/redundant one...
I put gerrymandering for that one CR...

I think we totally kicked this test's ass, atomicbomb :)

i think our test was easier than the US one, guys... look at their postings on that other thread! i'm soooo glad i live overseas (american citizen in the czech republic) :)
By the way i realized that i got 14 for the marbles one. I think the question went:
1 more red marbles than green marbles
3 times green marbles = black marbles
if you said red was 2, green was 3, and black was 9 = 14 marbles

Um, for the math question, it was proportional, so f(x)=k/j*x. And yep, 2^(2n) is correct!

wooohooooo! what else can i remember... how many did you all leave blank? i left the last 2 or 3 grid-ins empty... just didn't get to them :(

I didn't omit any and checked EVERYTHING for the math sections...gah, praying for an 800!

woooooaaah... if only i was that good at math haha... i usually do the worst on that section... i'm more of a writing section girl myself :)
So kathyviolin... being a math person, what else do you remember about your answers? ;) i need some reassurance!

^^I put 21 because i thought the question said that the # of black marbles was 3 times the number of RED marbles. If it was RED then the answer would be 21. If it is Green then the answer is 14. Ill show the work:

n=an integer

g=r+1
b=3r
r=r

r+1+3r+r+5r+1. That means answer minus 1 must be multiple of 5.

5r+1=n
r=4

n=21

But if it was black=3 times GREEN

g=r+1
b=3r+3
r=r

5r+4=n
if r=2 then n=14

Btw i got 80 on psat math, but i think it might've been a fluke though.

Edit: i got 2^2n as well. Also, it was y=k/j*x because if you use the y-y1=m(x-x1) formula the k's on each side cancel.

hmm, there was a 115 and a 1983 (year) in the grid-ins. Oh, and I think 400 was the answer to the one of the MC, too.

hey here's another (kind of unrelated) question... say i got 780 on writing, but a 9 on the essay. what would that bring my writing score down to?

kathyviolin you are making my night! i got 400 and 115 and 1983 as well!

aw man now i'm starting to doubt whether it was green marbles x 3 or red marbles x 3... did you check that when you went through the second time kathyv?

kathy, i have the same as you. The 1983 one was trick though :D.

I think i remember seeing 400 somewhere. If you give me the gist of the prob. then i could maybe figure it out.
Hopefully -1 is still 800 on this test. This is my 4th time (i canceled once) and its by far the hardest. It def. harder than October exam and then it was -1 to be 800.

Lets pray together kathy :D

^^kimarie i could have sworn it was 3 times the number of reds. I have a photographic memory (doesn't work 100% under stress though), and i still remember parts of my work that show that i put b=3r.It is very possible i read wrong though. I think we'll need a couple more opinions before we can be certain. So far, I'm gonna be pessimistic and i only have 1 wrong.

Also, If someone can remember the 400 question i would be really grateful.

haha, ok atomic! OH, and the 400 question was the one about some animal reproduction... (population doubles every 30 min or something).

OH, and the second grid-in was 9 I believe (the one with the 2 sets and the sum with the highest probability).

kimarie: Yes, I remember reading over the question twice. (it's still not 100%, though)
