SAT Discussion for International Students-Diff test!

I fcking hope that the Disney one was exp...

the answ for machine was:

The odds of (syn for failure, don't remember what though) increased when a single mechanism controls a crucial part of the machine, therefore it is advantageous for it be concentrated

I Hope The Damn Weatherman One Was Exp :d

For the machine one, i put "fail/redundant"
Iceburg question => "amass received ideas"
For characteristic of artist, "worked quickly and easily"
For the journalist&invection one, i put "detest"...

there was also a math one about a girl and a guy and 39 books- i said the girl had 12 and the guy had 27

Yep. The question went something like the girl borrowed x books and the guy borrowed 3 more than twice the girl. Thus, 3x + 3 = 39, 3x = 36, x = 12.

hey but isn't it bad that we are all agreeing on aswers? aren't we supposed to be hoping that we were the only ones with the right answer because we are graded on a curve?

kimarie89 absolutely right :)

oh noooooo... :( lol

What did you guys put for the one about the great artist passages which asked:

The author's attitude is best described as:

I put wry; you think thats correct?

(it was referring to the lines where it said "Throughout history, by miraculous coincidence all other artists were found the same way).

And for the writing section what did u guys put for number 13 on section 10? The question was about the red cross woman being the first one to be paid as much as a man by the US gov. I put the answer that said "and would be...". But there was another one that said "equal to that paid a man" which may have been correct. I was hesitant between the two, could someone please confirm?

@kimarie, you must remember what type of people are on CC. Also, i think we will have a much more generous curve because foreigners also take this test, and most don't speak top notch English. Just hoping :D

I put dispense/hated for the one for the journalist thing and i was pretty sure it was correct.

Anyone know what other vocab was on the gerrymandering section??

oh yea i forgot this too:

I put dispense/hated for the one for the journalist thing and i was pretty sure it was correct.

Anyone know what other vocab was on the gerrymandering section??

Anyone remember using castigated, glib and/or remonstrance as answers??

(lol there go my hopes of 2400, 750 on vocab is a reach now)

About the machines.. I'm convinced it's fail/redundant

Redundant in an electronics sense means (according to Merriam Webster online) "serving as a duplicate for preventing failure of an entire system (as a spacecraft) upon failure of a single component "

Thus it would make sense if the answer were fail/redundant. Because the likelihood of failure increases if one mechanism ran a crucial part of the machine, somethingsomething REDUNDANT (so there's back up)

And I used "castigated". Don't think I used "glib", forgot about "remonstrance"

when do we get to know which section won't be counted? x.x

bleh i used glib...so are we put on the curve with everyone who took the june exam, or just the international kids?

redundant is correct check dictionary.com. It fits perfectly, too bad i used concentration :D. I think glib was incorrect, but I'm not sure (that means i got it wrong too). I put castigated so hopefully its right.

@kimarie there should be a different curve because the test is completely different.

Um, yeah I said the author's attitude was "wry"

The tip of the iceberg was the amassed ideas about art

I said "would have been the first woman paid.." instead of the other, kind of awkward one "to be paid to a man" or something

Remember the math one? Where it was
a triangle b = a/b + 1
ab<0
a triangle b = b triangle a

the answer was C) 0 right?

peachjelly,

Yup. The statements in the question together implied that b = -a. Thus a/(-a) + 1 = 0 :)

for the art passage did u get "challenge the notion of greatness"? it was the first question, but not sure myself what it really asked.

Timeless, I said "Challenge the notion of greatness" too

I think it's right. The question was something like, "What's the purpose of the 1st paragraph"
