SAT I Math vs. SAT II Math IIC

SAT I Math vs. SAT II Math IIC. Do the Algebra, Geometry and Stats of these two tests overlap with each other? Is the only thing that is harder about Math IIC the precalculus?

Would it be better off studying both of these tests over the summer at the same time and taking them in your Senior year? (I'm taking Calc now as a Junior btw)

yes...from what I know the only way Math 2 expands is through pre-caclulus which is for the most part a little more advanced algebra

If you are already taking Calculus, you should take the IIC test. No reason to take both of these tests. Take a practice test and see how you do.

You're asking about the difference between the math on the SAT I Reasoning test, and the SAT Subject Test Math2 ? (Not the difference between the SAT subject tests Math1 and Math2) That's how your question reads. Is that right?

If you are adept at SAT Reasoning math, with a good course in trig/pre-cal, you should be fine at math 2 subject. I didn't study for Math 2, (minimum glance at Barron's) but still got perfect score.

Yes I'm talking about: SAT I Reasoning test, and the SAT Subject Test Math2

The scores of my practice test are around 670, timed. I just need to be more proficient with calculator use and do the problems faster.

Should I take the Math IIC test in my junior year or senior year (and have the whole summer to prepare and get more comfortable with my calculator?)

Sorry I misread your original question. Most students take the IIC right after taking pre-calc. I wouldn't put it off too far in the future if you are already in calc; prepping for the IIC will involve review of math from a couple of years ago for you. Being comfortable with using your calculator is key to doing well on this test. Take a bunch of practice tests and you should be fine.

i want to echo was jrpar said. i took the SAT math level 2 subject test in june of my sophomore year (the year I took pre-calc). I'm so glad i took it then because if i had waited any longer I would have forgotten a lot of the things on there. Already there was some geometry stuff that I had forgotten, so waiting any longer would have been bad for me.

Everyone's different though.

Okay, I just took a real Math IIC test that I took about 4 months ago and I went from 670 to 740 on the scale that they gave me. I missed the same number (8) and omitted 2. I missed a lot of the ones that I didn't miss before...

Yes, I have forgotten A LOT of stuff and I do need to review. I don't know what I should do now, should I leave it off until the summer before my senior year and then study ** both** SAT reasoning Math and SAT II Math IIC at the same time (because some topics including alg, geo, and stats overlap?)

My son was took Math2c in June after his pre-calc class, and he did okay. Not great, but okay. He was going to re-take it this winter, but now he's pretty far into a calculus class and thinks the material on the Math2c test would take way more review than he has time for right now, so he's just going to go with the score he already has. If you have all summer to review you should be fine, but I agree with others that it's best taken when the material is pretty fresh for you.

So do you guys think it would be wise to leave it off after summer (year before senior year)? I was going to study it this summer but I just got lazy...

The two tests (SAT I math and SAT II math IIC) have overlaps right? I forgot a lot of geometry and I need to brush up on some things also..

Should I bother prepping at all over the year so that I won't forget as much until summer? I don't know what to do...

I've already signed up for dec, so should I just go in and try? If I think I did really bad, then I'll cancel it? thanks

If you already signed up, I think you should take a math1 practice test and if you do well then you can just take it. It's basically like the SAT1 math portion.

well, I took Calculus last year, took pre-calc two years ago and am taking stats now... I'm retaking my 730 Math IIC test on December 1...

Bob, are you prepared for it? Were you able to prepare over the summer? Do you think my scores will drop if I leave it off until next fall? What do you think is a better option?

Always, I don't think you need to put this off to next fall - save next fall for any retakes you might want to take. If you can put in some time this winter/spring taking practice tests for the IIC you should be fine. Neither of my kids spent more than a few weeks prepping for the IIC - they both took a lot of practice tests; by the time they took the test they knew pretty much how they would do on the real thing.

I think both of my kids thought the IIC needed more prep than the math for the SAT I math - but the prep just consisted of practice tests, being comfortable with the timing, question format and using the calculator.

So what if I get a really poor score in the 600's? Will that affect my chances in any way?

Do you think it would be wise to review a little everyday (say 30 minutes)? I don't know if I can go over that because I have tons of other things... Is that efficient though?

Anyone please? Should I study a little everyday throughout the year and try to get the test overwith as soon as possible or wait until next fall of my senior year? Will there be too much going on then?
