Hey CC, now that scores are out for 2007 exam takers. What's the general consensus on the correlation between SAT II and AP Scores?

Oh, definitely not always. Most of the people I know who did well on the AP test got much lower SAT II scores or vice versa. It's a funny thing!

sorry for removing details...I couldn't stand to see them!!

Noooo correlation whatsoever. These tests are affected by so many factors that they cannot consistently measure how good a person's knowledge in a certain subject is. There are definitely a lot of scores that reflect the test taker's expertise...Lots of 800/5s, but there are also a bunch of incongruous scores...680/5, 760/3, etc. While it is true that some AP classes may cover material that shows up on subject tests, the content of the two tests can vary drastically. For example, AP US History tests on trends, concepts, and justifications whereas SAT II: US History tests on specific details. For any future test-takers, I recommend looking at each test as an independent entity.

There is some correlation I believe.. but I think mostly with the MC section.

I got a 760 on the US SAT II and a 5 on the AP.. but I didn't finish one of my essays on the Free Response section.. I'm guessing whatever I did on the MC part helped me get the 5 more so than two pretty good essays and one completely unfinished one..

SAT II US History: 670 (66 percentile)
APUSH exam: 5

Like the poster above me, I didn't finish an essay on the AP exam (no conclusion on the DQB) and felt much better about my MC than my essays.

760 Sat II in chemistry with no studying at all.

Probably a 2 on the AP exam despite a lot of studying. Anxiety -> panic -> fail.

So for me, no correlation whatsoever.

AP exams test writing skills. SAT II exams do not.

OK, so there might not be much of a correlation but do you think that a good AP score can help offset a poor SAT II score? Please say yes!
ie. Chem 5 SAT II 740?
Thanks

740 bio-5 ap
740 whist- 4 ap

Biology SAT II - 740 AP - 5
US History SAT II - 680 - AP - 4

Pretty happy overall, I think they correlate in my case.

Duper, I bet you got a 5.

US History
SAT II - 640
AP - 4

Took them last year, and I'm still disappointed about the SAT score.

My scores:

Chem - 720 - 4
US History - 660 - 3
Bio M - 670 - 3
Math IIC - 790 - 5 (on BC Calc)

750 on Bio-M and 5 on AP. however i think that the 750 is well below my true ability.
800 on USH and 5 on AP
780 on Physics and 5 on AP Phys B
800 on IIC and 5 on AP Calc BC

i think that if you have a high SAT II score, say >750, it is highly likely that one will do well on the AP, but not so the other way around. the AP curve is for all intents and purposes quite a bit more generous

I think if you take subjects on science, you will get a higher score on AP if you do well in SAT.
If not science, the consequence may be different.

Wow this thread is giving me a lot of hope for my AP results, which still haven't graced my mailbox's presence yet. I swear, that mailman of ours needs to get his act together. :(

Us Hist: Ap 5 Sat Ii 640
Spanish: Ap 4 Sat Ii 660

AP Biology: 5
SAT II Biology-M: 740

AP Calculus AB: 5
SAT II Math IIB: 740

Meh.

You shouldn't compare IIC and AP Calc BC..
