SAT II Lit

Is the SAT II Literature test more similar to the AP Lang exam or the Reading portion of the ACT?

I plan on taking this exam on the October test date and I'm unsure of how to prepare. I scored a 5 on the AP Lang test in May and a 36 E/36 R/12 essay on the June ACT so I'm not too worried, but since I haven't studied at all this summer, I feel as if I should do some prep for the exam. However, I will have been taking AP Lit for a month before the Oct test. Should I be worried?

People seem divided on the best prep book for Lit. Would most of you say Barrons'? (I understand nothing can substitute reading and having a solid vocab)

My kids scored 740 and 800 on SAT II Lit with minimal prep. Pretty much all they did was study a prep book for identifying the various parts and types of literature (not sure I am using the right phrases…). But essentially they did no specific study of works of literature or vocabulary. I suspect the prep books cover those literature “parts and types” about equally well. Given your ACT score, that is probably all you have to do, along with taking a practice test in the book you use.

Congrats to them on their great scores! And thank you, I hope that’s the case for me as well. I heard that the SAT II Literature curve is a bit unforgiving… is this due to the difficulty of the exam or the number of students who choose to take it?

Well, I personally think all the SAT II curves are pretty unforgiving. But I suspect that only students who are really good at English and like Lit take the Lit test. Here is a link to the percentiles from 2012. It actually looks like Lit has one of the easier curves:
