SAT II - Literature

Hey guys. Just a few questions:

How impressive is it to get an 800 on Literature?

I took a practice test today and scored a 720. Is it possible that my score would rise 80 points when I take it 10 months from now, or is that very unlikely?

I won't be taking the test until next May, and I'm taking English Language & Composition AP this year. Should that class help raise the score, even if by a little?

EDIT: Also, for anyone who scored high on it, any tips to raise the score?

Thanks in advance! :)

The AP Language course might help a bit, because you’ll work with breaking down and understanding passages. I haven’t taken the AP Lit course yet, but I feel that this class would be more useful for the SAT Lit test.

It is quite impressive to get an 800 on Literature, probably much more so than an 800 on CR.

It is possible to get your score in the 760+ range, but getting an 800 on a test like this also requires a bit of luck.

Yeah. It sucks that I can’t take AP Lit til senior year.

See, that’s confusing, because I took the May 1 SAT and got 690 CR, but got a 720 on this. It’s probably because of the poetry though… I’m a poetry fanatic. :P

Dang it. This was disappointing… I thought this would be my best test, I’m very strong in English. I mean, a 720 isn’t that bad for Ivies is it…? I hope it improves when I take it next May.

The CR covers no poetry, so I guess it’s just natural that this test is better for you.

You still have a lot of time before the exam, so you should probably work with more difficult passages and older literature so that you’re confident when it is time to take the test. This test is known to be pretty difficult (this doesn’t have to be the case for you, if you’re particularly strong at literature/english) , has one of the harshest curves, and is one of the hardest to study for, so an 800 can never be guaranteed.

For the Ivies, you’ll want at least a 750 for a competitive score, which is definitely manageable for you.

Lit is actually preparable to a greater extent than CR is. In other words, its doable to raise your score. However, the Literature, unlike any other SATII, requires an immense amount of luck for an 800. You might get lucky and see a passage, or poem, that you already read (I saw a passage about Oliver Twist, and got all 6 questions pertaining to it correct).

^Ahh, I’m really hoping I’ll see a passage I’ve read. I doubt they’d include Shakespeare or Dickens or Twain or another poet/author that well known, but perhaps a lesser known one. It’s very unlikely though. :/

But yeah. I’m going to study very hard. I think a 750 is possibe… I mean, that’s just 3 questions more, right? I have 10 months, so I can get a ton of reading in. Any recommendations on what to read and how to study? I bought the Princeton Review book for it today.
