SAT II math 1 vs. 2

A coach from a highly selective school that is recruiting me has suggested that I retake my SAT II's. I took math 2 first time and did very well, but he is saying to take math 1 the second time.
Obviously, that should create a higher score, but will that look bad reverting?

I don’t know your first score or why the coach is suggesting you also take Math 1 (which indicates he may believe your math 2 score is too low). Colleges that require SAT IIs require two and they usually need to be in two different subjects so having two maths would count as only one and college would use your highest math in that situation so taking both usually won’t hurt you but makes no sense if you already have a high score in math 2. You should not assume you will necessarily score higher in math 1 than math 2. Curves differ and it is possible to do worse because, e.g., getting 8 answers wrong in math 1 can give you a lower score than answering 8 wrong in math 2.

The Math 2 score was 600. I also took 2 other SAT II’s, so it is not a matter of getting extra subjects in.

^Which schools are you applying to/being recruited to? I would suggest to re-take Math 2, and not take Math 1 again. 600 is kind of low, especially for the percentile it is.

Actually it is harder to get a high score on SAT math I.

math 1 is harder to get a good score on. I got a 740 on math 2 and a 710 on math 1. The math 1 curve is really tight.

Thanks. I’ll stick with Math 2.

600 on the Math II is terrible.
