I know there have been several threads on this but none of them were adequately addressed. I was told recently that SAT II Math subject tests (wheter IC or IIC) are required for college admission. Is this true (especially for the Ivies) and if not, is it severely detracting to take 3 subject tests within the same Humanities (histories, literature)? I'm not a very strong math science person and while I do take APs for the subjects, I'd rather not take SAT II subject tests on them.

The Math II subject test is only required for some schools, like MIT and CalTech. Engineering programs at any school will either require or strongly recommend that you take Math II and a science subject test.

That said, it’s not usually the best idea to take three subject tests in one area simply because that doesn’t give you an opportunity to show your aptitude/talent in a variety of areas. However, if you’re pursuing a major in the humanities and have already demonstrated talent in a multitude of areas through AP tests, I personally don’t really see any reason not to focus on the humanities-related subject tests, but that may just be my opinion.
