I'm an out of stater with a 1380 SAT score. (730 V, 650 M, 710 W).
I know that UVA recommends that one take SAT IIs, but I did not get a chance to take them the past year. If I did take them, it would be in October. Considering the OOS admissions rate, should I take the SAT IIS or would it be fine if I ended up not taking them? Does UVA care one way or the other?

Don't take what I say as an official answer, but I would definitaly recommend taking them. Even the UVA common data set says it is recommended to take them, and as you said you are out of state, you should do everything possible to help your chances. I'd take 2 (or more) if I were you.

I agree with jlamp. Since UVa says they "strongly recommend" them, you should probably take at least two. I know there are students who've been admitted without them, but being OOS, I wouldn't take that chance.

Looking at your strong verbal and writing scores, I'd say English Lit looks like a good bet. Then I'd take something else you're good at - but make sure it's a subject you won't have forgotten over the summer :).

Good luck!

take them.

to me 'strongly recommends' means "definitely do". Before I think they were required because UVa wanted to see the writing SATII, though now since that is part of the SATI it might not be a requirement. I'd say take 2 SATIIs -- If you really want to go to UVa, why not just take them?

you should take foreign language anyways because then you don't have to take the uva placement test for your language of choice, which is always at an ungodly hour of the morning in the summer (really, save yourself that pain). while you're taking one sat ii, you can take another one and be set.

You should definintely take the SAT 2s and try to score above 700.
