Hey guys!

In order to get an 800 on this test, how should I go about preparing? I've bought the Barron's prep book already.

I took a College Board practice test, and scored a 720; however, I gave myself an extra 15 minutes to finish the test completely. I asked an SAT English teacher how I should prepare, and she said to just do practice tests as well as study the Barron's book. Do you guys agree? If so, do you know where I can find a plethora of Literature practice tests (nothing easy)??

Bump please help me out!!

Someone please help!!!

A 720 is great on the CB practice test; I took it the night before the June test and got around that same score on my practice test. However, giving yourself 15 minutes extra isn’t really helping you in any way. From personal experience, I can tell you that time flies by faster in the testing room so you really need to learn how to pace yourself and not spend too much time reading a passage. If you linger on a question, you will NOT have enough time. Simple as that.

I’d suggest paying extra attention to the poetry/drama portions of the test, and either reading more of both or studying up on the common techniques/devices used in the two. Most students lack the critical thinking skills to tackle the poetry/drama, so if you can solidify your skills in those areas, then you will already be one step ahead of the game.

Honestly, I don’t think you need a prep book but if it helps, go ahead and use one. Your reading abilities have been built over the years, and if you are in an honors/AP english course at school/did well in said course, then you should be more than prepared to take this test.

Took it in June and got a 790 with minimal prep. Just relax and do your best! Good luck (:

blahblaher, thanks so much for the info! Yeah, I gave myself 15 minutes extra just to get a feel for the test since it was my first time ever taking it. Do you know where I can find a bunch of Lit tests to practice my pacing?

In order to maximize my test-taking ability, how should I go about studying the Barron’s prep book? What does this book prepare you for?

I would go through the free practice questions Collegeboard offers online as well on their website. As for more practice tests, I’m not sure where to find them but perhaps the Barron’s has some in it?

I didn’t use a prep book and I only took the official Collegeboard test as prep so I’m afraid I can’t really help you in that aspect.
