SAT Math is hard guys.

Okay , so the October SAT came in. Heres The breakdown:
780 Reading
760 Writing
690 Math
I know both my reading and writing score will go up, and even if they don't I don't really care. My math score though is really bothering me. I know to be competitive at Ivies, you need above a 750 in everything.... So how do I make that happen? The first time I took a full practice test I got a 680 in math, so I haven't gone up too much since then. That means there is definitely room for improvement, but how do I improve? Iv'e taken sooooooo many practice tests and everything, but nothings working. HELP ME

As for me, I’m opposite, I got a 750 in math… The problem is most people don’t have strong mathematical basics. Not try to offend you in any way, but in order to improve, you gotta know basic function rules, probability, circles, triangles, etc. Good luck with everything!

No offense taken. I know all the basic math rules. Triangles and factoring and how to work with functions and all that. I think the main ones I have problems with are those last few tricky ones in each section. If I stare at them long enough I eventually get them, but I never have enough time to do that.

Hardness is pretty relative. For example, I think SAT math is very easy (however I didn’t do nearly as well on reading/writing). An expert on representation theory may say it’s an easy subject, whereas it may be unintelligible for most of the rest of us (including myself).

For SAT math at least, practice and speed are key. Many of the harder problems have multiple solutions, and some solutions may be much faster than others. Finding the best way to approach the problem may save you lots of time.

A lot of people believe that the curve was poor this time, so I’d just chalk it up to that. I’m just going to wait for the full score report to see how many I missed.

I did poorly on math too and was frankly a bit shocked. I did better on CR and that was never the case in the past. Obviously the majority of the math is pretty basic but it’s always maybe the last 1 or 2 questions in a section that get a bit tricky and require more thought. I’d suggest just working on difficult SAT math questions instead of doing whole sets. Maybe just do the last 4 questions in a math section. That’s probably what I’m going to do.
