I'm trying to understand the Math portion of the SAT to help my child study. Is there a difference between the standard SAT which includes Math and Math Subject tests? Are Math subject tests additional to the standard SAT?

There are two types of SAT's:

The SAT Reasoning Test, which includes the Math, Critical Reading, and Writing sections, and

The SAT Subject Tests, which are tests that deal with specific subjects (e.g. SAT Subject Test in U.S. History). Furthermore, there are two math SAT Subject Tests: Math 1 and Math 2.

Mathematics Level 1 - Algebra, Geometry

Mathematics Level 2 - Geometry, Precalculus, Trigonometry

Some schools require applicants to take a few Subject Tests.

As for test content in the math section of the SAT Reasoning Test and the math in the SAT Subject Test, the content in the Reasoning Test is more about mathematical reasoning than the usual math you see in most high schools.

thank you.
