SAT or ACT

Does anyone know if reed prefers ACT or SAT scores? I know that they take both, but do they prefer one over the other.

Maybe I don’t get around enough, but I am yet to hear of a single college that has a preference.

And Reed definitely does not. I was in an info session 2 months ago, and someone asked, and the adcom said they have no preference.

Back when the CDS actually included a preference item, Reed said SAT.

Reed seems like a school that would prefer the SAT.

That’s interesting.

Well, that was 10+ years ago. As I mentioned, I was at an info session at Reed in March, and someone asked specifically (multiple times) about ACT vs SAT, and the adcom said “no preference” repeatedly.

(And in the 10 or so info sessions I’ve gone to in the past year-ish, no one has had a preference. So maybe colleges used to have preferences and now don’t? Or some have preferences, but not the schools I’ve visited?)

Or have a preference and don’t mention it. Since the CDS no longer lets schools specify a preference, it makes sense to publicly say there’s no preference; doing so might reduce the number of applicants. But the different nature of the two tests can allow schools to consider their results differently; some schools might more value reasoning, others knowledge. Reed says “Referred to as one of the most intellectual colleges in the country, Reed is known for its high standards of scholarly practice, creative thinking, and engaged citizenship.”
