Thank you for posting that.

People need to realize that different races do differently on SAT's.

i posted this a while ago...lol, but i wanted to find "a" chart that shows composite scores (MV).... i heard only 1.5% of blacks score 1300+.... and just wanted to see proof...

Wow, that's actually really interesting...

It proves what I already knew to be hard and steady fact.

yeah, findfish posted this a while ago.

I printed a copy.

oh no, this proves the asian stereotype... lol

laughs I guess that shows what you mean ;) But if you are in the 90 percentile +, you're in decent shape.

What would 99+ percentile be?

Everybody's so PC here :)

What's PC? Percentile crazy? ;)

I'm Mexican, so not suprisingly I'm 97+% percentile across the board...

Being black put me in 99+ for CR. I'm a statistical anomaly.

it sucks to be me. does being female counter act the asianess?

no offense, but why are puerto ricans and mexicans so special that there is a reason for a breakdown of the hispanic ethnicity? it's all in the range of 10 points.

Oh....yeah, imagine me...Asian MALE T_______T I'll get go cry now laughs

I'm Mexican, and I HATE the Hispanic moniker. It's too broad in my opinion.

lol... i wonder how many of those blacks are half blacks (like the girl currently ranked 1st in my class), same with hispanics(although to a higher degree, since miscegnation is more common)... i have MANY friends that are part (like 1/4 or 1/2 latino) that cicrle hispanic(PR,MX,other)... how are we being PC? :)

It's because 'Hispanic' and 'Mexican' aren't necessarily the same thing.

Puerto Ricans and Mexicans are put into their own category because overwhelmingly they are the majority of the Hispanics in this country, yet, very few of them go to college. Their h.s. dropout rate is higher than other Hispanics and their test scores and academic courseloads are weaker.

In trying to create diverse student bodies, colleges strive to have their student bodies reflect the ethnic and racial diversity of the nation or their state.

Consequently, by breaking Hispanics out into separate categories, college admissions officers can compare the Puerto Ricans and Mexican Americans to people from similar backgrounds instead of to Hispanics who are more likely to come from either wealthier or more highly educated or professionally successful backgrounds.

As for Findfish's question about black students: A disproportionately large number of the top scoring black students come from immigrant African backgrounds (Such immigrants are more likely to have doctorates or other graduate degrees than virtually any other category of immigrants including European ones) or immigrant Caribbean ones. Consequently, a disproportionately large number of top scoring black students also are immigrants or first generation Americans.

As you guessed, there also are a disproportionately large number of biracial black students in the high scoring categories. Why? Perhaps as was the case during the period of slavery, teachers and others expect more out of lighter skinned African Americans. There's also the possibility that regardless of the white mother's level of education, when white mothers advocate for their kids, they get taken more seriously by teachers and administrators than are black mothers. Most bi-racial African American kids have white mothers, which could be an advantage to them in school.

I can't tell you how many times teachers of all races have blown me off when I went to advocate for my kids even though I have a doctorate, am well spoken, knowledgeable, etc. For instance, when my older son was 3-years-old, he was reading and was highly verbal. I told his preschool teacher that he was very bright and tended to act out when bored, so needed intellectual stimulation.

She blew me off for months. It took at least 6 months before she finally noticed that he was reading and most of his misbehavior came during times in which she was reading to his preschool class book far less complicated than he was able to read to himself.

ya, asian pride!

the secret isn't that asians are smarter.

it's just that there's a secret asian mafia that beats up any dumb asian who wants to take the SAT.
