I took the SAT in may and recieved 800 math and mid-600s in both reading and writing. I am retaking the SAT on October 9th. My question: would it be a good idea to completely neglect the math section and only focus on the reading and writing sections? Although its not completely allowed, I could use the additional time to concentrate more on the reading and writing sections.

Err. its not allowed at all. They’ll take the test if they catch you on the wrong section.

I got an 800 in CR. I’m not going to study for it this time around, but definitely don’t blow it off. Colleges are still going to see that there is a big discrepancy between your two math scores.

It is not allowed at all and the proctor or another student will certainly catch you repeatedly going back to work on a previous section. However, if you want to take only the reading and writing section, I imagine you can sit through the math section if that’s really what you want to do… though having an exceedingly low math score may raise some questions. Also, not all colleges pick the highest test score by sections. Some do it by test date.
