Sat Reasoning June 06 - Post All Discussions HERE!

lol alrite this whole replacing profession in place of trade in the quote is ammusing. OBVIOUSLY profession does not make ANY sense in that 3 word quote but the question was what it closely represents in the CONTEXT of the sentence not in the context of the Quote lol. Whatever guys lets not freak out about this but Im telling you that trade and commerce are just common synonyms and the SAT doesnt just choose words from sentences in the passages and have the literal defininition be the correct answer.

Was the A triangle B question also the one where ab<0?

mtl07...90% sure whose is correct.

pinstriped, we had the same test.

Decoy: Oh no, I was referring to the question where the triangle acted as a operator, as in X [triangle] Y. Would you mind reminding me of the question you're thinking about?

DanishBoy: First, I'm now almost positive that commerce is the answer. "Man of Trade" by definition refers to commerce, but feel free to look it up. Actually, for me, trade = profession instead of trade = commerce at first glance, but trade = commerce fitted in this circumstance.

Secondly, the fact that great artists work quickly and with ease makes sense, even outside of this passage. General public stereotype leads us to believe that art geniuses do this. Somehow, working alone doesn't seem to work in this case b/c this does nothing to establish someone as a "great" artist. For instance, I work well on art by myself and I'm average, but if all of the sudden I'm producing prodigious art in 5-min, I'm then considered genius.

did anyone get fail....redundancy for an answer?

i also put whose but idk if it was right on the underground river question. I wanted to go back but didn't have enough time

section 6 is experimental?
\why did do this ?
section 2: 25 question
section 5 : 23 question
section 6:***** 24 quesiton*****
section 9: 19

dsb: yeah, about the computer.

DanishBoy: lol I'm starting to freak out b/c my 800 is on the line. But anyways, one rule of thumb for these "nearly means" Q's IS to replace the answer in the sentence.

Edit: here's what I found: "Men of trade and commerce met within the precinct, and even the cathedral itself, to make business deals..." from here

i agree /w pandora. im scared too.

what was the answer to the math question where two equilateral triangle (with side 12) overlapped. the question asked for the perimeter of the quadrilateral formed.

i got 24 and i guess its wrong. how do you arrive at 30?

ok someone please help me out. I had 4 critical readings. section 2 was mars/ art, section 5 was about writings, section 6 i forget, and section 9 was about an explorer. I'm praying that section 6 was experimental. can someone confirm this?

Pandora- You make a good point, I do agree with you about the whole working alone and working with ease/quickly could both work or not work at all. I still, however, believe that work alone is the answer just because I feel like the whole working quickly with ease is more of a weak inference even though totally possible. If you could point out some more facts from the context of that paragraph/sentence that lead to you to make that assumption then go for it.

For the man of trade question, When I think about it to guys When you say a Man of Profession that makes absolutely no sense and if thats what the question was asking, may have been, then I believe commerce is totally the right answer. Yet Im pretty sure the question quoted "man of trade" and asked what does trade most closely represent and so it would be referring to his profession not just the synonym of trade. If you have a different viewpoint then go for it but I do really well on the verbal and normally dont miss questions on these passages that often but whatever I could see how both answers could work.

Yeah, I was just wondering, because I don't really remember the questions too well at this point. If the A triangle B = B triangle A question was the one where ab<0, the answer can't be 0, can it? I think I put -1. But I might be confusing questions.

haha pandora me too cause I really wanted an 800 cause I got a 770 in may as well.

Danish Boy: Since I've been arguing tooth and nail for it, why not stop now? :p

So here's my reasoning from a previous post:
The master left for a short period of time, and comes back to find that Michelangelo completed a whole bunch of paintings and sketches. This implies that great artists such as him can do excellent work in a short period of time without much trouble. This also fits in with the public stereotype of art geniuses, that they can work w/o breaking a sweat. I believe "work quickly and with ease" is the answer.
"Man of trade" is a pre-defined expression that means "man of commerce".

Edit: I got an 800 last time. Don't really need it this time around, but it would be nice. Good luck to you though. ;)

When will they say which sections weren't graded? I had 4 writing sections.

A triangle B = B triangle A
ab < 0

A / B +1 = B/A +1

A/B = B/A

The only numbers A, B that make this work are:
A=1, B=1
A=-1, B=-1
A=1, B=-1
A=-1, B=1

The first two don't work because ab needs to be less than zero.

The second two yield -1 / 1 +1 = 0, the correct answer.

anybody know for post 891?

lol pandora. You make a really good point. Well Im totally doubting myself right now and I wish I had the passages in front of me because I had difficulty between both these questions and narrowing it down to both these choices but at the time the answers I choose really seemed the most correct but now Im really not sure. Oh well
